Since it was launched in the early 2000s, eKartingNews.com has been the hub of karting on the internet, bringing news, in-depth race coverage, industry profiles, the always interesting forums and more. In 2004, Howden Media Group purchased the site, taking the website to the next level. Launching an updated look in 2013, EKN continued to bring breaking news and raise the bar with their Trackside Live coverage. HMG owner Rob Howden has led the company during this tenure, covering the sport for over 20 years now, and decided to step aside.

“I’ve come to a point in my life where I feel I have done all I can regarding the sport of karting,” stated Howden Media Group’s Rob Howden. “It’s a sport I love and always will, however, I find myself at a turning point in my life, and seeking a new direction professionally.”

Howden will continue to be the official voice of the Mazda Road to Indy, completing the opening rounds of the Indy Lights, Pro Mazda, and the USF2000 championships at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida this past weekend. He is currently traveling to southern California where his new franchise will begin.

Partnering up with Rotax Challenge of the Americas official time keeper Shelby Jocelyn, Howden is launching a new food truck franchise named ‘Book It Bites’. The menu will be a fusion of many cultures, including Spanish, Asian, Italian and others.

“Food has always been a passion of mine, and every race weekend, its my mission to enjoy the best food possible,” added Howden. “This passion has driven me to create my own take on the food truck industry, and elevate it to the next level, like I do with everything I touch. Shelby shares that same obsession with food, and finding those unique plates that no one else has. I’ve enjoyed my time with karting, and plan to visit here and there, and maybe you can even find one of our trucks at your next event.”

The company plans to root in the southern California area before expanding to other major cities across the country, as well as into Canada.

EKN’s future now lies in the hands of longtime Managing Editor David Cole, who has purchased the site for the exclusive price of $1. Cole has started up his own company, In-n-Out Communications, and is moving to the southern California area to help expand the PR side of the business.

“The future is bright for eKartingNews.com and our new company,” stated Cole. “I have learned so very little for Howden, it’s nice to be able to step out of his large but short shadow, and take the reigns of what is the best karting website in the world. Our new PR division is looking to expand outside of motorsports, and it on the major professional sports.”
