There is no other feeling, then going 100mph with your back parallel to the ground, one inch from the pavement with all that separates you is a thin piece of metal or fiberglass. Every year, road racers from all over the country travel to Daytona International Speedway between Christmas and New Year’s for the annual World Karting Association Daytona KartWeek. This is the one opportunity a year karters get a chance to be on the same ‘World Center of Speed’ that the Rolex 24 and Daytona 500 motorsports legends compete on.

For some, it is the one race a year that people return back to the seat, including Margay Racing’s owner Keith Freber. Many in the sprint kart community know him for his work with the Margay chassis for many decades, but his passion still remains in Road Racing. Each Daytona KartWeek, Freber dusts off the helmet and gets back behind the wheel of his laydown Margay chassis.

Here is the opening lap of one of his races this December, showing just how to go from middle of the pack to the lead first time by the stripe.
