SWRC HAS THESE RULES NOT OUR CLUB
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS.
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SELL YOUR GOOD MOTOR FOR ONLY $160.00

NORTH TEXAS KARTERS AND SWRC "RULES"

Winner’s engine may be claimed by anyone finishing in the top 5 positions at a cost of $160
less add on parts. (Clutch, above mentioned ARC kit, restrictor, jet, exhaust braces, and mount) Claimed engines will be impounded by tech and thoroughly inspected for performance enhancing modifications. If engine does not pass tech, the claimer does not have to purchase the engine. Refusing to cooperate with the claiming process will result in immediate disqualification for the remainder of the year along with forfeiture of all points.

Why not? Want to pump money into the motor, join a different class. I don't know what these engines cost, but I think claim price should be somewhere around 150% of "NEW" cost if work on motor is not alowed.

clone motors cost 100 to 130 new depending what color you buy.

160.000 claim is about what everyone else is doing are track is 150.00

it's to keep the 500 dollar motors out of the class.

and most of the time the ones that piss and moan are the ones building cheater motors

dont like it go run a animal and spend 1,500.00 plus on motor to run up front

Jerry

but why?
if you, or you kid are leading the points because you have a fast motor.
why you have to sell your good engine for only $160.00
and why if you don't want to sell it, they kick you out of the series or you don't get no points at All.

It prevents someone from byuing 500 engines and choosing one to run. The class is for BUDGET racers.

If you dont know or understand the answer to that question, then you are racing the wrong class buddy !

Why not have a claim rule on the TIRES or kart?

On all but the tighest of tracks, tires on clones are a non issue. Free hand me downs work just fine which is why suggestions for a spec tire in clones is an awful idea. Yeah, some folks will spend a lot of $$ on tires but if engine is legal, it's overkill.

I agree on chassis. $500 ebay specials should be the norm. Why not just require everybody to bring a kart to the track with seat unmounted and draw straws for who drives what kart? Could be yours could be someone elses. THAT would be cheap and competitive.

BTW Jamie: I'll take the belt clutch you have. Got spare springs?

This is very standard practice. We have a claim rule too. After 2 years we have had only one claim. The reason for the claim is the Dad thought that the reason his son was getting beat was due to the engine. Guess what, it was the driver and chassis setup, not the motor.

If your motor gets claimed just go to your buddy to claim the motor next race so he can give it back to you. Very Happy

Wow didn't know this existed! Sounds like the old modified stock car dirt track race rules.

Is there a clone class in Florida running? Just getting into the sport picking up my first kart tomorrow ^_^

Yes, Jacksonville 103rd Street has a very large Clone class. Not sure about the other tracks. www.nfkc.us

Arturo (or Armavy) Marquez, you forgot to mention when I claimed your engine you said "Yaani-Mai I had that engine shipped from California. It cost me $1,000. Why would I sell it to you for $160?".

You also forgot to mention that your engine was shipped off to be teched & had a micro blued crank & lapped piston rings. I was curious how a $100 engine would cost $1,000 I guess I know now. The SWRC & NTK rules clearly state everything in the motor must be stock & not altered in anyway. You were blatantly cheating.

So Jerry VanDeusen had it right when he said

and most of the time the ones that piss and moan are the ones building cheater motors

So did Chad Stapleton

Everyone that answered your post only heard your side of the story & they all get it except you, now they have the whole story.

Yaani, I only read questions. Nobody mentioned you claimed the motor. Here comes the can of worms and clones no less. Wink

IMHO, the only alternative to claiming in clone classes is to make the trophy out of lead and make the winner bolt it onto their kart Laughing

Like it or not people are going to buy $500 clones, or $1000 clones, or whatever they feel like they need to spend to be competitive. Then they'll get onto the rules committee of their local track and make some kind of "local" engine rule like "no claimers, engines just like AKRA EXCEPT for you can do this, and this, but not that." And, they'll just happen to have the exact engine needed to win in their trailer, and everyone else will have to go to their local engine builder who also happens to be on the rules committee to have one built for $1500, and it won't be legal at the track 1/2 an hour away because they'll have their own "local" rules, and kart counts will drop off because it's too expensive, and people will get into fights at the track because they KNOW their competitors are cheating, and we'll be right back where flatheads left off.

I won't even bother to say what the other alternative I think will work is, you've heard it from me before.

Just stick with national rules and if you get your "special" engine claimed then you must be able to afford it.

JMHO,
