The WKA Manufacturer's Cup Series makes its return to the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex at the famed Road America facility. Competitors are already locked and loaded in Elkhart Lake, WI for practice tomorrow morning. EKN will be arriving Friday afternoon to take in the final few sessions of the day. Saturday will begin our popular Trackside coverage with updates after each session.
If you have any questions, we will track it down once we get settled in. Stay tuned throughout the weekend. _________________ David Cole

So, now they are juicing the tires AND cooking them?
I wanna be the tech guy on the grid with the IR thermometer, "Nope, they are not quite 77 degrees yet. Maybe if you blow on them some more..."

Morning folks,
EKN's David Cole is now en route to Road America for this weekend's WKA Manufacturer's Cup race and should arrive in the early afternoon. I was able to make the trek to Elkhart myself last year so that David could be on-track in his TaG road race machine, but with three straight events on my schedule beginning this weekend, I need to skip this year's event. As David stated, he'll be bring the immediate top-10s after all of the competition sessions, and will be filing daily reports on the action.
Please feel free to discuss the racing and pose any questions that you may have to David so that he can help keep informed all those you would not get to Road America this year. _________________ Rob Howden

5 years ago we tried tire warmers at Daytona, we were the only ones with them. Figuring that this was a December race and warming the tires I thought would be a benefit. Guess what..........no benefit _________________ Mark Ouimet |

As much as I've been told, tire warmers really only offer improved grip for the first couple of laps anyway, as the tires will eventually get up to optimum temp pretty quickly. That said, if they're banned, as long as its the same for everyone, it's cool.
I was thinking though...in the summer heat, could a tire sitting in the sun get anywhere close to ambient temp? The track surface is always 20 degrees hotter, so considering the products used in the construction of a tire, would it not be quite a bit hotter all the time? _________________ Rob Howden

EKN TRACKSIDE: FRIDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE
Despite some normal Chicago traffic delay, I have arrived. The weather here is perfect as the first day of the Zoom Zoom Nationals is underway. One thing that I happened to miss was the fact that this year's event is the Grand Nationals, so every driver who wins will walk away with the coveted WKA Eagle trophy. While the paddock on the road race side looks small, the sprint track is busy. I'll have official numbers when I make my first rounds of the facility. _________________ David Cole

so if you put the tire warmers on immediately after coming off the track and leaving them on until going to the grid, all day long, is that one heat cycle? _________________ Blaise Haynes

EKN TRACKSIDE UPDATE:
Got an update on the entry totals for the weekend...looking around 400. We will have an official number on Sunday.
The sprint track is making the final run thru the groups for practice with the road racing track finishing up as well. They will be running the Briggs Charity Race and we will have the results of that race. _________________ David Cole
