This weekend marks the second round of the inaugural WSK North American Series by CKI. The event will take place at the Phoenix Kart Racing Association (PKRA) facility in Arizona. CKI will be supporting a number of first-time entrants once again through their unique program that helps keep drivers in the sport of karting. Also introduced in Phoenix is their team support program, all readable in the Preview for the event that will be posted later today.

EKN will be providing updates here throughout the weekend. Be sure to tune in and ask any questions regarding the drivers, teams or schedule. Once in Phoenix, I'll have the weekend lineup published or Rob Howden - the voice of the WSK North American Series - will be able to provide on update on today's action.

EKN Trackside Live: Friday Practice

After a couple days of delayed flights, missed connections and standby options, the EKN staff is either here at the PKRA facility or en route. I was able to get in late last night and David Cole will be landing early this afternoon to begin our coverage of this round of the WSK North America series.

Practice is now underway, with the drivers receiving five separate sessions. They will be beginning timed practice at 2:00 pm, requiring transponsder of the karts for the last two runs through the class rotation. We will be posting the times from the final session on this thread, so those of your at home can see who's quick.

The weather promises to be interesting this weekend. Perfect blues skies and light winds will be the norm throughout the three days of competition, but the temperatures will be very high, sitting in the mid-90s. On Sunday, locals are calling for triple digits, which will certainly play a role in the outcome, bringing both driver fitness and tuning decisions (chassis and engines) into the occasion. The track has been recently paved, and we'll see how it holds up to the hot weather.

The turnout for the second series round is about the same as the opener, much lighter than hoped by the organizers. We're being told that the numbers are in the high 50s, with 13 competitors in both Leopard Junior and Rotax MiniMax standing as the high-water mark. CKI is welcoming several new drivers to the series, which is a good sign, and if they can impress these racers with the quality of the program, they will stand a better chance at attracting them to the third event on theschedule, which is set for late July at New Jersey Motorsport Park.

We'll be back later this afternoon with the times from the final practice session.
