OK, I'll go first...

Here's one from last years SuperNats. I started the S4 main in 7th, got spun out in turn one lap one and worked my way from dead last to 14th.

Sorry for the bad quality. This is me practicing at Pat's Acres in Canby a couple of years ago. The track was damp and drying, so I went out with dry-weather tires on. Started hailing. During the second lap, the track was completely white, and I was having trouble getting off the track.

Not bad for a a little island with a population of 4.5million eh? The low entries at some national events over here astounds me sometimes.....

Hello Jeff,

Glad your son Jesse was OK and was able to finish.

I really enjoy watching karting videos of any type (hence this thread). I do this not only for just the shear enjoyment of it but also to see if I can learn anything.

I'm not trying to hijack my own thread but.....oh well, what the heck...

Something that I noticed that may help your son is that he needs to get on the throttle much sooner. In many corners he seems to be waiting until the apex, or after, to be WOT. Especially in TaG you need to be on the throttle before the apex to not only maximize your exit speed but it also helps to turn/rotate the kart minimizing understeer. Have him try to roll onto the throttle while he's releasing the brake at turn in using the following sequence:

- threshold braking in a straight line (trailbrake if necessary)
- as he's releasing the brake have him roll onto the throttle at turn in

He will probably have one of a couple reactions after trying it:
1) That Ken guy is crazy...(I already know this...Laughing)
2) "The kart feels really loose...". This is good because he's used to it understeering through the middle of the corner.
3) "I'm running out of gear...". This is good because he's carrying more exit speed onto the next straight.
4) "The kart is turning in really nice...". This is good because the chassis is "jacking" (lifting the inside rear wheel) which is helping to free up the kart.

One thing I learned very early on in karting is that you will spend very little, if any, time "coasting" or part throttle. Either you're on the throttle or on the brake.

Your results may vary...

Thanks Ken for the advice, we were chasing the setup at Daytona, the cold didn't help things either, that was his first real run on YKC's, kinda the wrong place (Man-Cup) to learn a new tire, oh well we had fun despite the results, at least he got a chance to rub elbows with Jamie McMurray, AJ Allmendinger and Dan Weldon.
