It's my first kart
Yamaha KT100 kart package. Back in the 1970's Yamaha actually produced a turnkey racing kart they sold through their dealers and other places. Not a competitive chassis at the time but the engine went on to be known and loved by generations of kart racers.
I would suggest you check out the vintage kart sites to see if someone wants it. If it's completely stock someone might want it to restore???? Most of these guys are into rear engine karts and exotic dual engine sidewinders but there might be someone who would like to restore a piece of karting history. If you were close I'd offer a couple of hundred bucks but it's not worth shipping for me, somebody else maybe?
You're unlikely to be successful racing it competitively and you'll spend more on a clutch than it's probably worth if you want to get it running. If you have your heart set on driving this kart your best bet will be to get a cheap 4 stroke and put it on there, you'll have plenty of frustration trying to get the KT100 engine running well and the clutch working. If you want to start racing check with your local track, you can find out there what folks are doing and what kind of equipment you'll need. I definitely don't recommend trying to run this thing up and down your street, you'll tear it up pretty quick and it's more dangerous than you think.
Check with Jerry VanDeusen, you can PM him from this site.

He might know someone who would be able to help. He's reproducing the chassis I switched to back when we decided the Yamaha wasn't going to get the job done.

| i havent started it but the engine is free i checked and the tires hold air but they are old. i am thinking that the kart is just as it came from the dealer as it has just sat up for YEARS. i worked on my friends truck and he gave my the kart for payment. |

I wouldn't bother trying to start it if you aren't going to drive it. There should be some dirt oval kart tracks in southern Miss, check here
http://karting.4cycle.com/forumdisplay.php?f=43
for events that might be near you. Karting is a great father/son activity since you get to actually learn about competition and sportsmanship along with the mechanical stuff.
You might have stumbled into something fun for both you and your kid.
