anyone want a fast 15 year old in their team?

which raises the question - it's not running to RMC age rules is it?

I would think they would want 16 years old and older for such an event, but the best way to find out is to ask them. You may be able to sweet talk them if you bought a whole team slot Mary Ann

I just got off the phone with Gary Smith, owner of SSC Racing of Arkansas and Kartways of Arkansas. I wanted to confirm with him the minimum age, and it is 18 to race in the Rotax 24 event.

If all goes well this will turn into a Annual event.

Now this is how good teams start... with 3 great drivers and lots of money on hand. I'm up to $6.00 now at this rate we will still be looking for money for the 2009 Rotax 24 hour race...

But we have good drivers ready to go anyways. They will be older and well seasoned by the time the 2009 race. This dollar per driver program will also give us a great variety of drivers and tuners. It will be a force that cannot be beat any way possible.

Still looking for sponsors (more money than a dollar or two) for the 2002 Rotax 24 hour.

Maybe you ought to auction of the driver slots on e-Bay????

10,000 entree fee divided by 10 drivers=1000 each.
24 hours divided by 10 drivers=2.4 hours each
1000 divided by 2.4 = 416.66 per hour
or 6.94 per minute.

OK Trevor, i'll take a 15 minute stint !!!

Lynn, it's $15,000 entry fee, or $10.42 per miniute. So thats $156 + you have just committed to !
This has to be one of the most expensive rental kart deals going. Certainly not for the average "recreational" karter that Rotax originally aimed the Max at..!

Just as an interesting comparason, you might want to check out the www.kartstars.com.au site.
This is the Aussie Max series sponsored by Ford, and has a similar package, ie; kart, spares, tyres, entry fees, clothing etc - even a travel allowance. The only difference is;
1) Cost, - $17,000 Aussie (US$9000 approx)
2) a whole seasons racing ! 5 rounds, not just one day.
3) prizes ! 2 top scorers get a seasons sponsored F-Ford racing, 3rd gets UK racing school.!! + cash prizes at each round.

Now, not wishing to re-ignite that - "is the Max worth more in the USA" - debate, but compared to the 24hr offer, who's getting the better deal here???

Didn't they just lower tht price to AU$12,000 for the full package, and AU$8500 for the rent a ride package?

Either way, I take these to be different series, aimed at a different audience.

Not withstand the concerns I'd have about a bunch of first time karters running a Rotax for 24 hours with little or no training, the US series is aimed toward corporate promotion and bonding. I think it's an interesting idea. These types of outings were really common in the '90s, using sailing, fishing, hunting and even the Richard Petty school , among other team activities as more of a team building/ promotional function for the company.

The Kartstars series seems to me to appeal to people that really want to race a season of karting, and would rather do an arrive and drive. It seems to me that this is more like the arrive and drives they do with Rotax down in the Mission region.

I give up... If you are not wishing to stir the pot here then what are you doing in the kitchen holding the ladle? Taking your own figures it seems to me for US$9000 I would be able to afford(6) 24 hour events per driver rather than (1)as you imply. I digress...

Obviously Chad you have missed the whole intent behind this event in comparison to the series you speak of. This event would not be a stepping stone for anyone. It would not be a series, in fact as far as the racing goes, it would probably end up a race of attrition. And the team that wins will be the one that avoids everyone elses on-track antics. Just as the gentleman at SSC Arkansas stated, it would be an attempt to find the 'R.J. Reynolds of the Karting World'. If it someone from Corporate America takes the leap and latches onto karting because of this event then it is well worth $1,500 per driver.

There is no comparison to this and the Australian Series. That series does sound inviting, and maybe someone over here will take note of that and start something similar.

On a different note though:
Has Australia finished their Max Challenge season yet? If not, when are the Nationals over there? How many drivers are involved?

Geez, I wish I was 20 some years younger. Or my son 2 years older.

This looks like it could turn into something really big if its used to its potential. Its not just a race, but an opportunity to practice and develop the most important elements of a professional racing career;

Marketing to secure a sponsor.

I don't think the promotors realize how valuable this could be for any career minded racer.

$14K is kind of steep for one driver, but considering the cost of pulling all this together, splitting it up among 10 is not too bad.

Try to get 2 hrs of racing time at a SKUSA Promoto in a competitive ride for under $4000 in expenses. Clearly for the career minded this is a far better deal than a Pro-Moto.

Count my son in in a few years.
