I run a KT100 with a pipe. I am looking for opinions on an external K&N filter versus the internal filter. Has anyone done testing? What kind of horsepower gain have you seen?

I can't give you horsepower figures, however, we have used the external K&N for a while now and run real close to leader times on Yamaha Junior classes with cans.

I know we lunched a motor completely by going off track and sucking dust right through a properly oiled foamy in an airbox and have NEVER gotten dust through a K&N.

Todd, I also run a pipe motor, and I have not used an external filter as of yet. There has been alot of talk about which filters are best and so on. About the horsepower gain, I dont belive you would have a gain, in my opion there should be a very small decress.

Here is what I do (and I might get some flak from this but it works for me) I use panty hose...not personaly, just for the kart, and very lightly pull it over the two inlets, then snug them on with a couple of plastic ties, then trim the edges with a razor blade.

I have ran the first part of the season then checked inside the box for any dust/dirt and it was clean. I should replace them....might do that tomarrow.
