Dale Coyne revealed they've hired Englishman Alex Lloyd to drive the Boy Scouts of America IndyCar.
Not sure I want to live in a Country where the Boy Scouts of AMERICA aren't represented by an American.
I'm sending back my membership card. |

Somethings wrong when the Boy Scouts have enough money laying around to sponsor an Indy Car. |

It gets better. 2008 sales of Girl Scout cookies were over $800 million!
Maybe Sarah Fisher should give them a call. This would be a great sponsor for her.
I wonder what the profit is on $800 million with free sales labor? |

Could have been worse. They could have given it to Dunno, in which case the car would have been driven by a woman from Venezuela. |

It's not free. Seriously. About 25% of that is "commission" that stays with the local troop that sold the cookie. My wife is a local leader. I've had a basement full of GSA cookies for the last month and my karting trailer turned into a cookie hauler. |

I gave up on Girl Scout Cookies when I found out that they are not made from real Girl Scouts. _________________ Greg Wright

Consider this: There are only 2 full time Americans in the IRL - and only one of them could be a Boy Scout.... _________________ Spec TaG Masters @ NCMP / #23 |

One of our clients is one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country and all that money goes to pay for the girls' activities such as camping. Girl Scouts pay very little for their activities while Boy Scouts (what we had) have to pay for everything. Summer camp was never cheap which brings us back to the original question... Where do the Boy Scouts get the money to sponsor an Indy car????
And yes, I have a problem with it not being an American driver. _________________ Mike Martz

| Well, I might ask the same questions about the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, all government funded organizations, that are spending the money to sponsor NASCAR teams. What up with that? I know they need to advertise to get recruits, or do they? With the crap economy, I would think they have people filling the recruiting stations for employment. |

It's all about the quality of the recruits. They prefer to have soldiers that can read and write. _________________ Race Grandpa

| This is the 100 year anniversary of Scouting in America. They should be able to recoup their investment through memorabilia sales. Maybe even make a couple bucks. From a marketing and PR perspective it would make a lot more sense to have an American driver. Specially if the driver had been a Scout, but that would make entirely too much sense! Lloyd is an excellent driver though. |

Along the same (but smaller) line: It was in the New Castle paper this morning that Darren Manning was at a local elementary school last Friday to talk to the Cub Scouts competing in the Pinewood Derby about racing.
Article reads:Manning, of England, came to Westwood Elementary School to watch the troops compete in their annual Pinewood Derby. He signed autographs, let the kids try on his driving helmet and talked to them about racing. _________________ Spec TaG Masters @ NCMP / #23 |
