I'm finally tired of endlessly working on the kids jr 80cc (unlimited) shifter, and getting no track time myself. I've now got a Rotax Max on the way for myself, and have been researching the information available.

One question continues to come up however. It appears that quite a few things are being done in many regions by many competitors and service centers around the world to this motor, and within spec (technical specification E02-2001). Things like squish, head volume, bearing fit, ring gap, cylinder wall/piston clearance, heavy-duty little end cage, etc.

The reason I'm attracted to this class is the prospect of sealed motors. On the other hand, one needs to understand the game being played. What is the situation in the US?

If one wanted to change the squish for example from 1.3mm to 0.9mm, and it was perfectly within regulation to do so, what is the process for a service center to tech it and seal it back up?

Rick,
In a nutshell, if you run the RMC and you break the seal, you must return it to a RMC service centre. For a nominal charge, they will inspect it and reseal it.

If you are not going to run the RMC, then you can break the seal. The engine is yours. I know a lot of people have the motor, yet don't run the series. They do a lot of carb tuning that would normally fall out of bounds for the RMC. They might be doing a little head work, too.

As far as IKF, I believe the specs will be finalized at the Fall meeting in Seattle. I'm going to assume that they will be identical to the RMC specs.

Also, I personally think that the RM jr. will revolutionize the junior parts of karting.
