Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and was wondering if anyone used the Briggs 206 on a sprint kid kart? I was wondering how they performed compared to the comer c50/c51. Question

Thanks in advance for your input !!

I don't know much about the LO206 program. But I do know some vender is making a different throttle slide for the carb. I heard the power output is very close to the c50/c51 and a whole bunch cheaper and the motor can be laddered through the senior levels. Do realize the 2 cycle folks might have some feathers ruffled. Maybe somebody with the know will comment.

The vendor with the long slide is Briggs & Stratton.

Is the briggs website for this engine. I haven't run one on a kid kart yet but I can tell you when you factor in the rebate it costs less than what I usually get to rebuild a C50. We've had a blast running the LO206 on adult sprints, can you say bulletproof Very Happy Very Happy

Comer is a fine company but some of the parents have gotten totally out of hand when it comes to what they'll pay for a kid kart motor. IMHO the sport needs something reliable and cheap to get the kids started and this sealed, rev-limited package is just the ticket. The challenge is that most of the European manufacturers sell their karts with the C50 engine already installed, I don't know if some of them are offering just rolling chassis but I'm sure they will if there's enough demand.

Contact Dave Klaus through the Briggs website or PM, I'm sure he can hook you up with someone who's already running the package and will share info.

Cheers,

We are leaning towards a Tornado F1 kid kart or CRG. Do you know if these are easly mountable in those chassis? I think I saw where they use a special mount plate. On almostall of the kid karts I have seen there is not a lot of room for that little comer and I know the 206 JR is bigger?

There's a nice article on the Junior LO206 in the November 2009 issue of National Kart News: "A New Era for Kid Kart Power?" Lots of photos. Unfortunately you need the hard copy, the article isn't available on www.nkn.com.

I'm sure you can get back issues. Also , check with Jim Frantz at Faster Motors ( www.fastermotors.net ) . I believe he makes a motor mount for the LO206 / Kid Kart . Plus he's a nice guy with a wealth of OHV Briggs knowledge. A lot of info can be garnered from his web site.

I will have one on display at Kart Expo if you in this area.
We did most of the testing here at Badger Raceway to fine tune this package, power is very close to the Comer engine, their will also be a different slide available to fine tune and equalize if there are any issues with different styles of tracks. Briggs will have these available to the tracks.
As far as fit, it is a direct bolt on to a new Top Kart. Use the available mount and the spec header fits right on. The new style body work clears with no problems. On older karts while I had no problem fitting on the chassis, the bread box style pod did have to be trimmed.

As mentioned one of the big advantages is by age 8, simply change out the coil and slide and you can go right into the Jr classes.
From the stand point of someone running a track, the benefit I see is controllable tech. I think most of us know the stories on Comer engine modification. With the Briggs the bottom end is factory sealed, and the tolerances are held very tight. The top end is subject to the same style tech that the other Animals have used for a decade. It is minimally invasive and requires only a few tech tools. This should provide a very fair and equal class and do it at a very fair price

Bob,
.....how do you deal with the Briggs drive being opposite to the comer ?
Sprocket on the inside of the axle bearing.. new key-way needed ?

In Europe, the 4 stroke Kid/Cadet karts mount the motor on the LH side of the chassis

Comer C50/51 drive is inside the right bearing. Not sure if on the KK there is a seat clearance issue at all or how much the larger motors weight throws off the weight balance.

Bob is correct. The testing has been done and it works great. Fastermotors makes the mount and it doesn't look as funny on the kart as you might imagine. Most of these karts have so much lead on them it's not funny and how novice mechanics mount it is sometimes downright scary. I haven't scaled one of these karts but it should be fine, the track tests show equal performance to the C51 and remember this motor is de-tuned so it can be used on cadet and full size chassis with minor (user do able changes) later.

I wouldn't hesitate to run one with my kid if she were 5 but the biggest challenge is adoption. You can't run something different from everybody else if you want to race. If your track is open to it, or if you have a bare KK chassis (or one with the old style engine) this is a great way to get it going with little cash outlay.

I was speaking with some folks at Kart Expo this past weekend and it looks like some of the manufacturers are leaning towards making a KK with this engine on it. I'm sure we can expect that once this happens and the word spreads tracks will open up the class to the Briggs. After all, it's supposed to be an exhibition only class for training the kids how to race. Sensible clubs will welcome anybody who wants to come in at this time in this economy. Briggs has gone all out to solve one of the biggest problems in karting. Kudos to them....
