Need to break in my engine. What temp should I get it up to??

If your breaking it in on the stand, around 275 is the most you will see. You will need to brake torque it to get some load to get it to that temp. Otherwise 350-375 is fine on the track, just control the revs. I usually start by reving to around 5500, then back down, up again, down for about 5 minutes. Then to 6000 for a few laps, then 6500. Come in, drain oil, let cool, and then put the hammer down.

It is important to break the engine in on the track. The primary reason to "breaking in " the engine is to seat the rings and it must be done with a load on the engine , both in acceleration and deceleration to attain proper ring seal. Very important in making hp. The procedure Chris mentioned is correct , temp. will take care of itself if all things are correct ( carb jetting for instance ).
