dellorto carb jetting (sure do miss the Keihin)
ok last chance for this 125 pavesi with 30mm vhsh carb (its sold and buyer knows the history but I probably have OCD and really would like to figure out why I'm having this problem)
45 inner pilot
60 outer pilot
135 main jet
DQ268
K22 (2nd clip from top washer on top)
50 throttle slide
air screw one turn out from seated position
rich on idle loads up in grid takes half a lap to clear out
turned air screw in and out to correct, turning it out causes a lean condition once applying throttle? wait a sec its literally full of fuel at idle (fuel leaking out the exhuast manifold) and now I crack the throttle and its lean? wtf? anyways so karts on the track, below 8700rpm kart has little power after 9000 rpm runs great. So i try a DQ267 then a DQ266 only gets worse, again to lean. So then I get to thinking to check the timing maybe its off. Timing was set at 1mm btd. Swedetech's website says 1.5mm to 1.7mm so I move it 1.5. Go back on the track. Nothing!! Same darn thing doesnt pull till 8900-9000 rpm. SO fine i'll adjust gearing to keep rpms higher. works great in turns 2 and 7 low rpms around 9200, however i run out of rpms at the end of the straight. SO that doesnt work. So back to engine again. If I had a baseball bat I probably would have come home with ground beef. Thanks again for letting me vent my frustrations any jetting tips would be greatly appreciated. Float height? anyone know whats suppose to be parallel to what when the fuel bowl is off and the carb is upside down?
(i keep telling myself i love me kart, i love my kart, i love my kart) NOT! |

Sounds like the float is too high, or the needle valve isn't sealing for some reason, not really sure on the correct float setting, sorry, but I'm sure someone will chime in on that one.
Not sure how long you've had the Pavesi but they don't do well low in the rev range to begin with, if yours isn't running well because of the carb or timing that's one thing, but it's not an engine that can be short shifted. If you miss a downshift and it falls off the pipe it's like throwing out the anchor.
Don't give up though man, mine runs like a Swiss watch.

You did not mention how your fuel lines are routed, and which fuel pump you are using and what size needle and seat.
Do you have a return line to the fuel tank? |

9000rpm's is the bottom of the usable rpm range. As far as it bogging in the corner and running out of rpm at the end of the strait, the Pavesi has a wider spread of gears ratios and is more difficult to gear for a sprint track. If the track has a really tight corner you may try using first, or work on your chassis/driving to carry more corner speed.
The Pavesi is a great motor once you get it figured out, fast as hell on the long straits. |

What fuel pump are you using? Dellorto makes a fuel pump, i switched to the dellorto fuel pump and a majority of my carb issues went away, you can buy the fuel pump from Tom Barth.

As Steen asked, HOW ARE YOUR FUEL LINES ROUTED?
This is critical to match your fuel delivery system with the size of your needle/seat!
Running one fuel outlet to the carb and the second back to the tank DOES NOT work if you are using a needle and seat that is #250 or bigger!
With the round Mikuni pump, block one outlet. From the open outlet, run a line to the carb, 2" before the carb's fuel nipple install a "T". Run a return line back to tank fromm this "T". Make sure that the return line is your highest looping line. This will provide a fluid "head" and insure that fuel does not short circuit. No inline restriction is required.
For float height, take your bowl off and turn your carb upside down. Your float arms should be level or upto 2mm above at the tip from being horizontal with the gasket surface.
Good luck. _________________ Riley Will

Ryan,
I agree with Steen and Riley. Somethin' strange is goin' on. Your jetting is close. As Riley says, set floats level. But make sure fuel lines are routed properly. _________________ Tom Barth
