Performance Karting Exposition February 5-7, 2010 is going to be great for the kart racing industry. This expo is bringing indoor racing and all types of racing together. I think this could be the biggest thing to happen to kart racing in a long time.
PKE is helping to get the secret out! Superbowl weekend in Las Vegas should get worldwide exposure. Indoor racing, outdoor racing, demos, and an expo. It is about time something different and this big has happened to karting. _________________ www.accelerationkarting.com |

The US is big enough for two shows in my opinion.
I wish both show the best.

The kart expo in Illinios will keep its niche. PKE is different and will help to grow the sport which is good for everyone. _________________ www.accelerationkarting.com |

Is the expo anything more than a handfull of people marketing karting goods to people from the midwest?
It will be hard for me to justify the drive from Indy to go back.
Vegas, yes I may be up for that trip. |

Anything or anyone that promotes and exposes karting is a good thing. We shouldn't criticize those who make an effort to do so. _________________ Howie Idelson

Well, sounds like our karting here in Colorado. We used to have 160 - 180 show up for an event. Now? 40 - 60 entries?
Maybe one of these new enterprises for the kart show and / or one of our multiple choice Colorado racing promotions will light the MF'er up, take off and get it rocking again?
Not sure if the old way lost it's pizazz and the racer fractured off. Or if the racer fractured off and the new way didn't get it?
Not really smart enough to have the answer, my youngest is 21, just feel for the parents of 5 - 8 - 13 year old. You going to miss some damn good times in kart racing?
Still believe in the sport, just a little tentative in it's direction. But I'm just an old dude who has traded paint with guys like Terry Ives etc... and just hate to throw the towel on what has been a catalyst between the adults and kids in the family since the early 60's?
God I sound negative! Not my my MO really?

Rick,
I just think there are too many fishermen (Tracks, Events, Classes, Promoters, Clubs, Motors, Importers, etc....)
and not enought fish (karters)

there are too many people with the the idea "I can do it better" and they believe they can do it without the ones who have made it a success in the past.
Would have been cool if the trade show guys could have worked together and did an east and west show (with several months in between their shows).
The same goes for the Colorado track owners. I would rather have an average show with not as many bells and whistles and race against 30 other drivers in our class. Rather than go to an all star event with 6 in my class.
The reason the Colorado series was so successful was the kart shops supported their customers. In return, the customers wanted to hit the big races with the teams. It was the team owners like AJ and Barry that had the huge pit spots for their drivers and offered a fun, educated tent to race under. Now the thing is soooooo split that they can not afford to put on the same show for half the drivers at twice the events. Plus, each driver wants to be loyal to their respective local tracks. IMO the other tracks need to look at what we had a few years ago and realize that their way has not worked the last few years. They honestly need to step aside and let the sanctioning bodies run the races.
Pissing contests leave you with an empty bladder and smelling of urine. They are no good in business.
Ok, I am sure I have pissed off a few people. But hell, that is why I live in Texas now. |

This is not a pissing contest.
I have absolutely no problem with someone attempting to put on another trade show—more power to them.
What I do object to is the promoter using our long-established and well-known trademarked title - Kart Expo -
or a derivative thereof as his own.
The promoter is keenly aware that this is in direct violation of both Federal and state trademark laws.
It is also very confusing to the karting community. _________________ Darrell Sitarz |

Good analogy but a little off. My take:
Too many ponds (tracks, events, clubs, etc)
Almost no fisherman (dealers, importers, etc)
Too many poachers (dealers, importers, etc)
Not enough fish (karters)
There are lots of places to be a karter but there are so few actively involved in bringing new karters in to the sport. Everyone wants to beat the living snot out of each other for the same smaller batch of racers each year. Not only is it bad for the sport but it is just dumb business.
You'll be hard pressed to find a karting business that spends 10% of their marketing budget outside of kart races, kart magazines, kart websites, kart clubs, etc. Not that those aren't worthy programs to support but unfortunately it is just "preaching to the choir".
We will do our best to support any show or entity that actively pursues bringing new people in to the sport. I hope both of these shows are succesful at doing just that and as a result are relevant to those of us in the industry. |

and BTW, if you both really want each show to be successful as you say then why not work together and promote both shows (not in the same month either). Not talk federal trade mark infringement because the name is similar. You are saying one thing and then another in the same post.
If the name Kart Expo is trade marked and they use it exactly like that then yes you have a complaint. I understand first hand about coming up with an idea, marketing it and making it a success, only to have someone else do something similar. It used to drive me crazy. But then I realized that I must be doing something right. I took it as a compliment, worked harder to be better, and dominated. BTW, there are now 6 companies that spawned off of my business and still after 4 years have to use my name to get product from suppliers. There will never be another Kart expo show. As long as it continues to do what is right for itself and not to try and hurt the other then it will be fine. |
