Myself and 3 friends dragged out our early 80's Emmick dual engined karts out to Calspeed on Friday practice. Inititialy we were denied access to the track due to lack of modern safety features in which we understood. Rob, the track manager could have easily turned us away but instead granted us our own class so we could be out there without jeopardizing safety of others and their insurance.
We had alot of fun ! We want to thank the track management of the Fontana track which invited us back anytime during Wednesday or Friday practice days. In addition to it's normal novice, junior, and senior sessions they will add vintage if enough folks show.
The Calspeed track in Fontana is a mecca for the duals !! Our oldies turned a few heads out there. We will be back. _________________ Biesse B7 Yamaha super pipe #66

| I have a vintage dual sprinter myself. Out of curiosity, what specific modern safety were your kartsm issing? 5/16 wheel studs? Even the karts in the '80s required bolts to be wired, etc. We also have dual braking systems on the twins even back then. Can't think of that much which has changed. |

only thing that the late 70's early 80's to todays kart dont have is body work.

Ever since driving Randy Fulks' B-open enduro at Road America back in the 80s I guess I have a soft spot in my heart for duals. Now if you really want to pull at my heart strings, bring out a triple Mac or West Bend with 6 carbs and I'll let you in for free! _________________ Rob Niles, Managing Director

| I think Calspeed is the best track in Southern California. I think Rob is doing a great job over there. And I think their Master Karting League has a lot of potential too. Alex |

Anyone who's never seen these karts run doesn't know what they're missing. We all used to put our tools down and head to the fence whenever the duals fired up.
Sure the ICC's are pretty impressive but IMHO nothing compared to a couple of open 135cc duals and, they ran on hard Goodyear Blue Streaks and Carslile Super Slicks
Keep it up boys, I might just get one of Jerry's chassis and join you some day

Hi again guys. Glad to see I am not alone with the old duals. The safety issues are lack of full nerf protection and lack of impact front bumper, otherwise no issues.
My kart is a 1979 Emmick Arrow dual with PCR reeds. My buddies karts are 2 more Emmick Arrow duals and one Emmick Elite dual.
These older karts do not handle quite like the latest, You slide them and steer with the throttle. Tons of fun and make you look like "smilin Bob" behind the face shield. Driving mine has made a better current day racer.
Hey Jerry, come join us out there ! Will not be attending Bakersfield because of other race schedule conflict.
Hey Rob, I will take you up on your offer and bring out the 1968 Margay New Breed with dual West Bend 820's ! _________________ Biesse B7 Yamaha super pipe #66

I went to Quincy last Oct to see the Vintage Kart Olympics and had a great time seeing all the old karts from back when I started. But the best part was watching Traeder,Speed, Mann and some others out there in the C-Opens. They are not true Vintage, but still a wild ride. I joined VKA but soon was back into modern racing. But the best part is, I was asked by Jeff Brown to come out and Flag the C-Opens at New Castle when the Legends of this sport come out. Haddock,Dismore,Speed,Traeder,Stewart and many more. I am excited. I hope someone else counts laps because I am sure I wont be able to ! You all should come if you are nearby. Its June 18,19,20 at New Castle _________________ Racing is a State of Mind ! ... A very nice state to be in ! |
