Best to go to the track where there are others who might be willing to give you a push.
But, prime the carb by turning the engine over so you have fuel in it and push in 2nd gear. Oh, make sure you are sitting in the kart too, you don't want it getting away from you
The most common reason 2 cycles won't start is a fouled plug caused by repeated failed attempts at starting. Keep the throttle wide open and continue pushing until it goes.

1) Make sure you don't have a fouled plug. If fouled, you can wire brush it clean.
2) Prime the carb. There should be a vent hose coming out of the fuel tank. Blow into that hose until you see fuel enter the carb vent hose.
3) If the ambient temp is relatively cold (less than ~ 65 deg F), open the choke. This can/will be debated, some will say to never use the choke...
4) Put the tranny in 3rd or 4th gear (on the stand). I put my CR125 in 4th...less engine braking.
5) Use a strap, wrap it around the right rear tire twice (clockwise while looking at the right side of the kart). While standing next to the right front tire pull like crazy with your left hand while your right hand is on the throttle cable (don't use the throttle pedal). It should fire after a couple of pulls (make sure to close the choke after it's started). If it doesn't start, close the choke & try again. After it starts, put it in neutral and gently warm it up to about 90 deg F.
When you are ready to drive it you have two options on starting it.
1) push start (easiest) - while in neutral, have a buddy push you on the shoulders. Once up to a fast walking speed put it in 1st gear and it should start (some will suggest 2nd gear). Be ready to pull in the clutch to be able to rev it a little once it fires.
2) bump start (harder) - push the kart yourself with your left hand on the steering wheel & your right hand on the seat back while on the left side of the kart. Once up to a fast walk/slow jogging speed jump in and shove it into 1st gear. This can be made easier if you are on a downhill slope. This can be tricky depending on the type of seat and where your shift lever is. I've got a RibTect seat and a shift lever that is lower than most and push starting myself is really hard because the seat's hard enough to get into let alone trying not to hit the shift lever when jumping in...
Once you get some practice with the push start you should be able to do it inside of 10 feet on the grid. Significantly less if you're really good. _________________ Ken Schilling

I agree with everything Ken has said, with the exception of using a wire brush to clean the plug. Metallic bits floating an area of high voltage=bad. IMO you are much better off either heating it with a butane torch (plugs are self-cleaning when they are in the correct temperature range) or use starting fluid to dissolve the oil\fuel.
Choke use will vary depending on your exact carb setup, the important thing is to alternate between on and off between pulls, if it doesnt even kick after four pulls, pull the plug out and have a gander. Also worth noting, it will probably start easier if you just lightly crack the throttle, full tend to make them struggle... _________________ Live in the midwest and have a TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart?

I prime with the spark plug out and the transmission in first gear. Rotate the rear wheel 4-5 revolutions while watching fuel in the return line pumping back into the tank. If you don't see fuel pumping back into the tank don't bother with trying to start--you've got a fuel system issue. If you see fuel returning to the tank while priming, reinstall the spark plug, shift into 3rd gear, grab the right tire with both hands and give it a sharp clockwise spin. Voila.

3rd or 4th. If it hasn't run in a while I would prime the fuel system first. here's how I do it: Wedge something, like a washer. behind the throttle pedal adjuster bolt to hold it open just a bit. Half choke (if you have one). Choose 3rd or 4th gear. Stand facing the outside of your right rear tire. Right hand palm-down on top and left hand palm-up on the bottom of the tire 180° apart. Twist clockwise with an abrupt, snapping motion. Hit the gas pedal when the engine starts and the washer will fall away. Choke off. Rev to your heart's content.

Remove spark plug from engine.
push the spark plug wire onto the spark plug.
make sure the threaded end of the plug is touching the engine.
put the tranmission in 2nd or 3rd. and rotate the right rear wheel clockwise. Rotate untill the fuel has reached the carb.
reinstall the plug.
pull the choke on.
Spin the rear wheel. It should start with in a few trys.
It would be good to have an assistant to hold the kart so it doesn't fall off the stand.
Once it is running, put the transmisson in to nuetral. Turn off the choke and let the engine warm up. Never drive it when the engine is cold. You may have to adjust the idle speed screw to keep it running.
With the engine runing and warmed up you can put the kart on the ground, get in and engage the clutch. Now put the transmission in first, rev the engie and slowly let out te clutch. Once the kart is moving, all you do is lift off the throttle a bit and grab another gear. To downshift you need to blip the throttle and select the next lowest gear. To stop the kart , slow down until you are in first gear, pull the clutch in , stop the kart with the brakes, keeping the tranmission in gear slowly let out the clutch . You might also be able to use the choke to turn the engine off. _________________ Patrick Hubbell |

Yes. But I think it is way cooler to start with the bare hands. |

Sorry T.M.I. Just spin the rear wheel with your hands. Use a rope if your hands get sore. Blipping works once you get going. _________________ Patrick Hubbell |
