I had the opportunity to run the club race at Irwindale yesterday. The track is so cool and unique. It uses turn 1 and 2 of the big oval and is really fast and then goes into the infield and is quite technical. This makes for great racing because of the draft and banking on the oval sections and the multiple lines you can choose throughout the whole track - it's wiiiiiiide. The racing was awesome with a stacked PRD field of fast so cal guys and we were done by like 2:30 so I didn't get in trouble with the fam on fathers day. The best part....It took me 35 minutes to get there from home. I have never raced that close to my house - ever....(legally). I suggest everyone come out and check out the track and racing at irwindale. Oh, and the bathrooms are like the ones you'd find at a nice hotel. The free King Taco lunch also rules. _________________ Howie Idelson

Howie,
It sounds like you never got out there to run during the LAKC/Irwindale days--basically the same layout and tons of fun. Sometimes the shifter kart fields were 30+karts.
I'm sure it is just as fun with the new club. |

We used to run the 60cc shifters there with my son. It was such a cool layout. The run they got from entering the exit of 4 somewhere out of the infield and running the whole straight was as fast as I 've ever seen cadets go. So the club added a chicane using barriers and the little guys never missed a beat.
It is also the track where I met Mike Maroni. If you are reading this Mike, tell everyone how we met. Everybody loves a good story.
Been friends every since. dc |
