To Mr. Tom Sekey and those concerned,
Please refrain from attempting to demur the efforts of the drivers racing in the sprint TaG class finals one and two during this past Daytona Kart week. I would like to give those who seem so concerned about the race another firsthand account and report on the weekend. For the three drivers racing rotax who took the top classifications in the final of each day (myself included), we were using the race as a performance evaluation of new 2009 chassis, and more than likely will not be attending at least a portion of the remaining WKA Manufacturer’s Cup races. I have a great respect for all my competitors, and for those who truly worked hard on ALL their performance settings and keep their integrity as racing drivers.
I feel that the Rotax, under the rule set provided by the sanctioning body, had an advantage at least over the Parilla Leopard. I believe that both the Rotax and the Parilla can race together at the same weight. I can’t personally speak for the other engine manufacturers, since I have had no previous experience racing with them. In my own experience, while producing their own unique power bands, the Parilla and the Rotax can create exciting racing at many tracks, while keeping racers on their toes by knowing where their competitors’ advantages and disadvantages are on track and exploiting them.
Please do not dismiss all the work David Sera, Maro Di Leo, and I put into our chassis. I tried hard and the best I could do was third place both days. This only means that I must work to find better solutions in a shorter period of time. There are many competitors who struggled at this race, and I am sure they will be working very hard toward next race as well.
All we can do as drivers and teams is to race under the parameters set to us by sanctioning bodies, race officials and technical specifications. Some statements made in this thread are a bit harsh, especially if more people knew how much work and testing goes into a great race program, specifically the one I am part of – MRP Motorsport. The work every one has done at Birel to give their racers better equipment in constant small evolutions is amazing. I did not win this race, and I give kudos to David at Arrow and Marco at Intrepid for a job well done. Yet with all the false accusations and misstatements I must be honest in saying that I am looking forward to the next official rotax race.

No disrespect to the drivers or chassis intended. As you said the rotax had an advantage its nice to hear someone that ran it admit that. We work under the rules we are provided. Its not the competitors fault. We go to a race to give it everything we have and to win. Congrads, you guys did a good job. Shame on WKA for not recognising it and fixing it on the spot giving everyone a more exciting race. I bet if you would have been pushed harder you would have been even faster. You only need to be faster than the guy behind you, speed them up and you work even harder.
That being said we still have a problem. Where do we go from here? I still stand by previous posts that the Rotax needs to conform to the criteria of the other TAG motors to run with the TAGs. Even if the new future rules for TAG take away some of the advantage that was present at Daytona whats to prevent Rotax from making another change without submiting it to the TAG Work Group? I don't think I am being unreasonable. |

I know everyone is very busy returning home and spending time with their families for the New Year Holiday, but would someone be kind enough to let us know when the complete results will be published or up on MyLaps? I am not trying to sound impatient, all of us that HAD to stay up here had a ton of friends and fellow karters down there that are still making the trip back to OH and PA.
Thanks, it really sounds like it was a great time. Hopefully next year my wife won't have to work and we can make the trip down.
Racefan radio coverage was awesome, Big thanks to Charlie and Greg!!! _________________ Kevin Harter

Gee, I don't know.... maybe things like people traveling back to where they live.... maybe spending a nice NEW YEARS with thier FAMILY just like everyone else. I'm sure the WKA staff will be back in the office on Monday and things will roll along nicely. SO IMPATIENT.
You could have got the FULL RUN DOWN if you were at the track.... (if it was that important) _________________ Jamie Webb

One of the best run WKA events that I have ever attended.
I was commentating the races on RaceFanRadio.com and the classes rolled off so fast that there was not enough time between to get in the necessary commercial breaks without missing the start of the next class.
I was really impressed with David Sera, Julia Landauer, Santino Ferucci and Tony Jump's run from the back in one class was a joy to watch. (I still have bruises from Tony's mom beating on my arm everytime Tony made a pass. )
We (RaceFanRadio.com) had a few complaints about the lack of Kid Kart coverage but we were unable to get as much as an entry list.
We were also unable to get a live timing and scoring feed which made things a bit difficult in all of the classes.
Still a great, great event. Congratulations to WKA for a great Daytona event. _________________ Greg Wright

It was as smooth of a race as WKA has put on, Buddy Long worked tirelessly as did the rest of the staff. They should get a big bonus!
No racing into the dark and we even had a couple of red flags and still got finished well before the light gave out.

Yes, as everyone has said, congrats and thank you to WKA for putting on an incredibly smooth show. It was very impressive, great job!
But Pat, there was some racing into the dark...the last laps in HPV Lite were a bit more difficult |

Hi all,
From an 'Aussie's' point of view, it is really great to see Dave Sera at the pointy end of the field. He and his cousin James Sera are dominant in the Australian karting scene and have been for a couple of years. There are a lot of people 'down under' who are rapt to see Daves result, especially with the horror start he had getting there.
Have a great 2009.
Regards,
Mark |

Oh,
I would also think that Drew Price & the boys at DPE in Australia who manufacture the Arrow kart would be 'over the moon' as well, considering all the testing that went into the new Arrow X1 chassis.
Regards,
Mark |
