What's the story on the unavailability of 5" tires? they ahve been around forever, now the 6"ers that have been available for 20 yrs. or so seem to be the only thing available. Is this a ploy to force everyone to buy new rims etc.? Is Karting becomming like like the rest of the world, forcing us to spend more to have fun? Or could it be something I'm just imagining?

Jack, I for one are in 100% agreement with you. Instead of competing on product quality and performance, some companies compete by changing the rules. Regarding tires, I don't think it was douglas, but I would suspect Bridgestone. I know I'm outspoken on this issue, but if I compare it to something like motorcycle racing for example, the brands all compete on performance. I know others are going to say that without them we would not have major sponsors, but if rules were more open, we would have better and more cost effective products, Specifically regarding tires.

Another example are those muffler cans that the yamaha use. Can someone explain to me why they change the number of holes? or why the holes need to be on the back or top or whatever? Is RLV listening. Please blackball me so I can go 250 racing.

Hay Jack, I made some 7" airless tires and rims they picked up my time by .03 , they are only twice as expensive. You want to give them a try? Just kidding but it seems thats the way it works when we want to go faster. Thanks for the Lath book! Do you think the Gov. would rent out that X-ray machine to an individual. Heck it might be setting in some surplus aution house. Have you really had trouble finding 5" tires?

Jack;
Look at the rule book for both organizations and you'll see why there is no more 6" tires/wheels. They've forced everyone to the 5" tires, plus a shortage of em drives up the price.

The question was posted because all I see in catalogs are 6"ers, I just don't like to be forced to change everything I have just because someone out there wants to make a larger profit. Let me and everyone else have a choice. Not every Karter has unlimited depth of pocket and can afford to just go out and plunk down 4-500$ on someone elses whim. Not having a choice doesn't seem good for Karting in general. My opinion..
