While your points are on topic Scott, Dave’s are on topic as well. Only difference in my opinion. Dave’s points are glossed over, over exaggerated, and misinterpreted all most to the point of intentional. That’s said … feeling the same “Does it always have to be negative” pain that Dave feels, all the time.
Nothing personal Rob, but I didn’t read Dave’s post anywhere close to being negative, like you did. Dave used words like …… “marketing and promotional event for the industry” and “to raise awareness of karting on a national level within the industry.” furthered with, “I think it's a great move.” Then when he summarized, ended with the comment of … “It's an outstanding piece of marketing but let's not read anymore into it than it is.”, he would be correct on all points. It’s an ultra competitive, stud filled, action packed, industry showcase race … for segments of the karting industry. Nothing more, nothing less. It is what it is. Nowhere did I interperate Dave saying or insinuate the race might be an exhibition of theatrical karting effects.
Which begs the question of …… why you didn’t address real blatant negativity on page 5 of this thread, http://www.ekartingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=76246 , when Rusell Kirkman called the PRI race, and I’ll quote, “an exhibition race“ …… and I was the lone EKN solder coming to SoK/PRI kartings defense. Man it's hard to being a martyr and a hero all at the same time. |

I have seen heard of this race for years. what an event it must be to go to. this past year I, as well as my kid and her team had got to know Mr. Lewis pretty well, (MMK #42 Micheal Lewis' father) and all the talk around this and some other events he does for racing. Well he invited us to go but we couldnt afford to and are busy, hopefully, some other time. Then my daughter, Airel Jimenez gets hooked up with (our dream team) and is now on a flight to Florida to not only race, but promote the team at the convention. Being 17 and basicly issolated to west coast tracks, she didnt really get the big deal about some exhibition race at some convention, then she looked into it and started freakin out. Being able to even be a part of this race is huge.
No one i know, ever thougtht you'd see an entry list with Tagliani, Carlton, Weldon, Carpeter, Valiate, DeMatta, Allmendiger, Andretti, McMurry, Rice, Speed and AIREL JIMENEZ!
to say the least I am extremly proud of my girl and thankful to her team!

I heard that Jeff Gordon participated in the Granja Viana kart race in Brazil (the one that Massa puts on, and usually includes many of the Brazilian drivers around the world, and which last year had a USA team from the SKUSA series). If he's willing to drive a kart in Brazil, why not in Florida? I'm a right&left turn kind of guy, but he definitely would be a good addition to the field. Just wondering if any of the kart teams have asked him... _________________ Aluminos |

Rick, the answer to your question is that when I read Dave's post, I was at the end of a grueling 18-hour work day and was feeling pretty down after discussing the effects of the economic crisis with my clients. I did not read the 'page 5 post' at the time, so I didn't comment on it. I also went as far as to send Mr. Stevens a PM apology the next day as he did not deserve my comment, considering that I was exhausted and hyper-sensitive to any negativity effecting my sport.
Like any forum post, void of voice inflection and tone, we often read in different things. I was tired, guarded and was hoping for lift from some cool discussion on an event that will bring more exposure for karting in the motorsports industry than any race before it. I didn't get it, so my knee-jerk reaction was to lash out.
To answer your question again, I read it, I believed that I picked up a negative tone denouncing the race's position as a 'real' race and I commented on it. I did so, as I know for a fact that when the visors drop, not one racer (karter or pro) will be thinking about the marketing side of the race. It will be a race, straight-up. Last year, AJ Allmendinger 'moved' Eddie Lawson to get to the front...I think he did the same to Marco Andretti a little later. Not a race? OK.
So let's move forward and not re-hash any more old posts. I would have pulled my late-night retaliation, but I felt that would be unfair. I made a dumb comment, so I'll live with it. I leave for PRI tomorrow night and I am stoked. And I really hope to read some cool commentary and feedback from people who are coming and who will be motivated to get on here during the days of the show itself. _________________ Rob Howden

Will there be any other coverage of the race besides the TV coverage?
Last year when it was scheduled on TV it never aired and I was really dissapointed. Somebody aught to be able to get some video of it if there are REAL TV cameras there (hopefully the footage doesn't end up on REAL TV lol).
Is the track inside of a big building? I don't know if the track is any bigger or better for this year, but if so, and this is an imaginative idea, perhaps the track could go around the inside perimeter of the building making for the 'infield' to be the PRI show. |

Hi Chris,
The track is located adjacent to the Orange County Conventuon Center in Orlando, Florida on a temporary track design. The track has been lengthened a little from last year to provide two more passing opportunites and should provide for some great racing action. Though the practice and qualifying sessions start mid-afternoon, the wheel-to-wheel action begins just as the PRI trade show and the PRI Happy Hour lets out for the day on Thursday December 11th.
Of course there will be coverage on eKartingNews.com and other motorsports media websites but as for race footage it is hard to say. The PRI All-Stars Karting Classic is set to air in early April on Fox Sports though....
Thanks in advance,

| Racefanradio.com (out of Indianapolis) will be covering the event beginning at 5:00 p.m. eastern time on Thursday. It won't be like being there, but it will be fun listening to the computer coverage--in "THE" race--go Dan Weldon--a great kart racer on an Arrow out of Alabama--in the "KARTERS" race--go Bobby Wilson on a First Kart I believe, and Kyle Wiegand on a Topkart. |

Out of curiosity, has there been any intrest from the drivers in possibly running Stock Honda or TaG ICC in these races?
Im a fan of TaG and like the current format, was just curious _________________ Git-R-Done! |
