Too bad for Adam Johnson. Looked like it was going to be a Johnson/Johnson 1 and 2 finish but Adam had a flat tire on the last lap. But still strong finishes for Kosmic/Rok TT packages! _________________ MARGAY Driver

i noticed no one had posted on the tom argy jr class incident. There was a spin in turn five in the front of the pack, leading to a 7 kart pile up leaving 4 left to restart.
Thanks roger and staff for the great weekend _________________ Zach Corson #60

There again seems to be an issue with the site and we are unable to post the story. The Sunday report including results and more photos will be posted in the morning. Thank you and enjoy your Labor Day weekend. _________________ David Cole

David,
Thank you for the post race write up, excellent coverage.
I found it interesting that since the inception of the TaG class every year it has been completely packed at the Rock. Usually filling up with 55 entries by June. While numbers are down across the board (karting as a whole), I found it interesting that with the addition of the super tag, not only did they not get the 55 entires in TaG, combined tag and super tag were well below 55 karts. I wonder if it was because proliferating the class took away the prestige of it being the 'big class at the rock.'

Congratulations to Rob Pretts, local Minnesota racer, on the last lap, last turn pass for the win in the 125cc Moto class!
Solid finish for Carly Mandarino too! _________________ www.stockholmkartingcenter.com |

It's the economy - plain and simple. Food prices, gas prices, etc. unexpectedly caught up with people this year.
As far as entries, we had a good number of drivers but some who might normally run 2-3-4 races ran only one. Everyone pointed to the economy and every series and track across the country felt it this year. It wasn't just TAG -- can classes, 4-cycle, especially shifters were down.
The event was still great, the racing still great, and The Travoltas were still great ... just that the grids were a bit smaller. As an organization, we will be looking at some changes to try and counter that because, well, we gotta pay the bills and we took a huge hit this year. Fortunately we have a few acorns hidden away.
Splitting TAG SuperPro and TAG Senior still was a good idea. Yes I wanted more than 11 in TAG SuperPro and 30 in Senior and Masters. But King of the Streets was even down to a grid of 12. I don't think either TAG or King lost any prestige as a result. It was still an awesome thrill to crown Alex Speed as King of the Streets and see Michele Bumgarner win TAG Senior and become the first woman to win at The Rock!! Both are great champions.
We will make whatever adjustments we need to make as organizers. But if participation is at this year's level or less in 2009, this event will be gone. There are simply too many fixed costs involved in building the track and putting on this event.
I hope everyone will mark your race calendar for Sept. 5-6, 2009.

The event was still very good. I do agree the entries where just simply down to economy. I think people will adjust next year and the entries will be back up. Or hopfully the economy will take an upturn. I wish I would have entered more then just the masters shifter class. I had brake issues that I didn't get resolved until the race which pretty much ruined my weekend. With the limited track time two classes would have helped me out. _________________ http://bridgemanbroskarting.blogspot.com/

Roger,
It was great to see you again. It's been awhile. You and your crew continue to put on a great event that every karter, with the means, should attend at least once in their career.
The RIGP is the last of the big street races. With Quincy and Elkhart both in the history books, it would be a shame to see the Rock fall by the wayside too. You have taken street racing to an all new level in safety and the energy and excitment still remain. After I got home, and it all soaked in, I forgot how much I love street racing.........and I didn't even race this year.
Racers,
If you've never been to a big street race, you gotta go and race in the RIGP next year. Roger and his crew do it up right!
Do it for the sport, do it for the event, do it for the fans, but most of all, do it for yourself........you'll have a blast!
