Five drivers (not 4) were able to re-start after the turn 5 pile up; these were Justin Jennings, Sam Beasley, Gregory Gerst, Tyler Stillmunkes, and Sebastian Peters.
Sebastian again crashed coming out of turn 5 in the final final, on about lap 5 or 6, but none of his times show up in my laps after the first pre-pile up final. What happened to his times? Further there seems to be no record of his re-start, except he can be seen in the picture on ekarting news re-starting in the third spot (#27, birel), and I was there and know he was running. Can any one explain why he seemed to vanish in the standings and results? Just wondering. |
Yes, Sebastian restarted in the 3rd spot. His transponder was on and was still blinking at me as of Monday afternoon when I saw that he was listed as 9th. This explains why my mother never heard his name again on RaceFanRadio after the race restarted - she thought he was done, too. Doesn't anyone actually watch the race? It should have been pretty clear, as there were only 5 karts on the track, that the 27 was running. I would think someone would have noticed that he wasn't being scored.
I called the Grand Prix office on Monday and they are looking into it. Kathy certainly knows he was there, there's a picture of the restart on eKartingnews, and I believe we have video, too. _________________ Kip Peters |

Come on Roger, give it a break on 125 Masters Shifters or at least be fair and accurate! 4 ghosts - not true. Did you bother to check on the 4 DNS in the class? I entered practiced, qualified but DNS'd due to an injury. Curt Lewis was hit by a drunk driver a couple weeks ago and thankfully he was OK, but his trailer was destroyed! How many other "ghosts" where in the other classes? For everyone's review here are the class numbers as posted on EKN results with each DNS list in () as Ghosts?:
KOS 12
Animal Heavy 18 (1 ghost?)
TAG Masters 25 (2 ghosts?)
Sr Sportsman Hvy 22 (1 ghost?)
125 Stock Moto 14 (1 ghost?)
ICC 14 (1 Ghost?)
2 Cycle Pipe hvy 17 (1 ghost?)
Tom Argy Jr. Sportsman 13 (2 ghosts?)
TAG Senior 29 (4 ghosts?)
Sr. Sportsman Medium 29
125cc Stock Moto 15 (2 ghosts?)
TAG SuperPro 11 ( 1 ghost?)
Rock Animal Medium 20 (4 ghosts?)
125cc Masters Shifter 24 (4 ghosts?)
Let's face it, three of the "Pro classes" (KOS, ICC, and TAG SuperPro) had less than 15. TagSuper Pro barely managed double digits and KOS would not have had 10 if we didn't enter 3 in the class. With the economy and gas prices the way they are, perhaps antagonizing and threatening your customers isn't the best way to grow the event.
I love the event and thanks to all the great staff and crew that put it on but I'd recommend you try more carrots and less sticks!

Does anyone know how TJ Keesey is? He was hurt in the Jr. Sportsman race - left in an ambulance - but I haven't heard anything on his condition. _________________ Kip Peters |

TJ was doing okay. He was at the awards ceremony later on Sunday night and appeared to be on some significant pain medicine, but in good spirits.
From what I understand he had bruised ribs and some other bruises and abrasions, but otherwise doing okay. At one point we had heard he had some broken ribs, but we were later told that that was not correct that they were in fact just bruised. After seeing that impact, I know we are all glad to hear that he was able to walk away from it. _________________ Kathy

Juniors: We have looked into the situation with Sebastian Peters and he indeed did restart. Our records and final press release will show that he finished in Fifth Place. A duplicate check will be issued. I don't know why mylaps showed him "out."
Also TJ was at the Awards Ceremony, looked fine and said he hurt rib cartiledge.
Kurt - I was just pulling everyone's chain with the ghost rider comment. You guys did an awesome job pulling together a great field.
Wrapup: Please share your thoughts on this year's event. We would like to hear what you liked, what you didn't, how you suggest we change things. For those who didn't make it, it's OK -- but we would like to know why in case there is something we can do to get your there in the future. You can PM me or send emails to grandprix@qconline.com |

Live scoring on the TV's.....above and beyond my expectations.
Howden and Cole calling the races on Racefanradio.com...very nice for the people that could not be there.
G-1 being the 4000.00 to win and the new KOS class...that would be nice. _________________ Like a fat kid playing dodge ball. |

Brian, I think that could be the beginning of the end if that were to occur. Numbers were already down this year. With track time being somewhat limited, if lappers were removed there would be no incentive for a third of the field to show up to run a handful of laps. Terry said in the drivers meeting that people will learn to pass and be passed. It is unfortunate that lappers did figure in to the equation of a couple of finishes. There is no right answer.
Rick nice video, thanks for sharing.
Jason Lee- It looked like you had a camera mounted to your helmet. Any video of that KOS run that you might share? |

I just noticed that as well Jason. Rather than leaning your head, I think you should call it your "gangsta' lean."

What a great event! It's always amazing how it feels each year to have made the journey and taken part in - and taken in - the RIGP. The proof is when, say, Tuesday morning rolls around and you wish it was happening again this weekend! Congrats and thanks to Roger, Terry and each and every worker responsible for putting on such a great show.
Congrats also to the winners and all competitors in general for the same.
As far as Masters, KOS, shifter classes in general....
Simply put, the moto/ICC weight split needs to be reinstated. See separate post.
Ignore CIK/Stars specs, drop ICC-only. Realign shifters by weight, Light & Heavy. Encourage multiple class entry, including KOS. Using current Moto as a baseline...
1) Light at 385/395.
2) Heavy at 400/410 (de facto Masters, but the small or young are welcome to add weight and get their butt kicked too).
3) Run KOS as premier shifter event, Heavy weight.
I think you'd see three good-sized fields and a lot of good racing, including head-to-head rivalries you're not seeing now (Lynn, Speed, Shipley, Wiegand).
Oh yeah, almost forgot my "outside the box" adder... KOS entrants go +10 lb in Light & Heavy. Give the others a break. Now pick which class you really want to target, and go racing. _________________ Pat Kelly
