Hey all, as you can see im new and want to start karting. I live in Greensboro NC and i am very interested i sprint and road kart racing. i just have a few questions. Are there many places nearby for me to get driving time? ive heard that lowes has practice days but i dont know anything about that. And Carolinia motorsport parks new track but still more info for both would be great. Also what class would be best around here (i am 14), i thought about the kt100 and change out cans but also the rotax. Another question i am very concerned with is where to buy a kart? i have come across a shop called Kart South but i know nothing about them. where can i buy a good kart not to far away? Thanks for any info. |

| if your 14 it depends on if you can drive. i would start in a rotax jr. kart. but im 14 and i race a 80cc jr. shifter kart. i would say the best kart for the rotax class would be a intrepid or a crg. well known kart companies. |

| Get a kt100. It is perfect for starting out in. A kt 100 is very easy to learn and is great for the new karter. Rotax are very fast and very hard to learn for a beginner. |

learn from my mistakes
im fairly new to this
turning 17 soon
you DO NOT! need to go out and buy the best of the beast
if you really want to though
get a nice used kart
and a small engine
the kt100 is good to start off
and if clubs around you offer a kt100 class for you
go for it
start off small
because if you jump into a rotax
it will be more problems engine-wise
get a small engine and focus on your driving _________________ Luck is just one more excuse to Fail. |

If you want to talk about engine problems, its yamaha. you'll be in the garage working on it after every race. if anything start out in a world formula or just a briggs class. and yamaha are the cheapest you can buy because of the work you have to do.
if you have good skills you can do what ever you want. dont listen to a 17 year old $%^&! he started out in there cause he couldnt do anything else |

| i race a KT100 and they are a blast. they have jr. KT classes in some places (i have never raced in one because i am 16). i don't know if they have jr. classes in NC though. they are a great kart to learn on especially with a 4 hole can and can also go pretty fast. with a pipe they are a awesome. |

having run both i can tell you that the yamaha is cheaper. you can pick up a good used one for around $800. you can get just as many races out of a yamaha as you can a TAG (leopard) motor and the rebuilds are 1/2 as much. we ran yamaha for 3 seasons and never broke one and rarely had to work on it except for the clutch after every race day, which we do with the leopard too. _________________ Blaise Haynes
