Hello EKN,
It's that time of the year, its the big one for all Rotaxians - the Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge Grand Nationals. Nearly 240 entries in five divisions will be making their way toward Denver, CO to The Track @ Centennial.
This year will be one of the biggest events of the year and EKN will be Trackside all week long, beginning Tuesday with the Welcome Dinner. Many are already settled in Denver with some still putting the final touches on their rides before heading to the Rocky Mountains.
Feel free to post updates and comments from now until Wednesday when our 'Trackside Live' coverage will begin with practice through to the finals on Saturday. _________________ David Cole

You know that the circus is in town when the tents and the clowns show up. The place is packed. _________________ Doug |

Ya it was crazy to see how many people are here so far. The event looks like its going to be awesome and the racing's going to be intense since the track is a little tough to pass. _________________ ART Grand Prix America Team Manager

Great event so far, and it hasn't even started! The track is great to drive, with lots of natural elevation changes and quick chicanes. Times are close in the SR division with low 55's to be the times to beat. The pit situation seemed to turn out fine from what i can see, doesn't look too crowded. Cant wait for the racing to begin, going to be a blast. _________________ Nick Johnston |

I always enjoy the head games some teams like to play at event like this. For example, I know one team that went out with their DD2 early without lead to give some guys something to talk about. Still another sent out their senior on B's just to bump a few bumpers. MiniMax is always good for one or two to pull the restricters just to stir things up.
Kyle Ray has all the DD2 guys scratching their heads. He slapped down a 52.9 late and I KNOW he is full on legal. Most are still trying to get in the low 53s. That one's for real boys and girls.
In senior, I haven't seen a 54 yet but I'm sure we will. There is a huge, I mean Really HUGE pile of guys in the low to mid 55's. My guess, at least 20-30 drivers within .3 second at this point.
Junior is all over the place. Some fast guys are not fast, yet. Some slow guys are fast (weight?) My guess is some will be dancing in the 55's soon.
Everybody seems to having a good time. I've seen too many dads jumping into kids faces. Lighten up Dads, its too early for that crap and it never is appropriate. It always seems worse in MiniMax than the other classes.
Most drivers like the track. I've not heard one disparaging word about it yet. Some are whinning that it will be tough to pass. Well my friends, a Grand National SHOULD be held at a track that is tough to pass, yet offers a fair race. I think we got one. _________________ Doug |

The EKN crew has finally landed in Denver to join the rest of the Mad Maxers for the Grand Nationals this week. After a few airport delays, we made it to the track to get our introduction to the facility and the paddock layout.
We're now back at the hotel getting ready for the Welcome Banquet sponsored by Bondurant SuperKart School starting around 6:30-7pm, with photos to be posted later tonight. Tomorrow, we will have updates on the practice day with some results posted as well as more photos. _________________ David Cole
