Last winter I slapped a digital angle gauge on my Mitox to see what the camber and caster for corresponding pill settings are. The results were repeatable to within .1deg to it would be fair to say it was accurate. You can only take the measurements as relative and not absolute of course. I think there was one or two settings where the effect of the castor change was minimal on camber....I'll dig up the sheet tonight and we can mull over it.

It came in handy where I was thinking "hmm well I want a more caster but dont want to change camber too much, whats the closest I can get?". Its all very well saying if theres more or less camber/caster (like the CRG manual) but knowing the exact amount it changes is nice.

You turn the top pill one way and the bottom pill the other way. It changes caster and the camber stays the same. Both top and bottom humps are on the inside to start and cancel each other out if you move them in opposite directions.

When you get past the front/back position the castor settings repeat themselves in reverse with the exception you are moving from max track width to minimum track width with the humps on the outside.

There is no stress on the king pin bolt because the head and nut both ride on spherical bushings that adjust to the angle of the king pin.

That's not strictly true. My Mitox has a spherical setup but the 8mm setups on my CRGs had nothing. The KP just went through the pill.

OK here's what I found. T/B if your haven't guessed refers to the Top and Bottom pills. The gauge was zeroed to the frame on the appropriate plane. So camber on the lateral, caster on the longitudinal. 2/1 2/2 and 2/3 show a very small change in camber with large caster changes.

Flame away!

It dawned on me last night, the camber will change with caster adjustment if the axle isn't right in the middle of the spindle bracket. The CRG I have goes either high or low unless you make custom ride height washers which I will be working on later today. The new system has some advantages but, the 8 position system is fine for my needs at this point in my F1 career plans.

here is the coyote caster/camber setup. we used it when we first started out. very nice and simple. independent adjustment.

http://coyotekarts.com/cat--Yoke--Yoke.html

caster is adjusted by rotating the yoke forward or backward. there are degree markings on the yoke that line up with a line on the frame. camber is adjusted using offset inserts that will tilt the kingpin in or out.

A big thanks to Dave Malloy. The chart that he mentions earlier in this thread is perfect for those that have the 8 position pills on their karts. I was unable to find an updated document from CRG, and Dave's pdf goes above and beyond.
