New to karting, recently got my first kart, CRG with a kt100 and pipe. Previous owner burnt out the clutch, believe its a L&T 6 spring single disk dry. I need something that would be good for practicing at the track, and honing my skill for now, will most likely try and race later.

Should I just get another dry clutch, or should I go for a wet one like the steel nytro? I have money, but would like something that would be somewhat forgiving to a noob, and not cost too much to maintain. Any suggestions?

I'd stay away from dry clutches with the pipe unless you're going to nationals. A Steel Nytro 3 disk is an excellent choice or a DXL 4 spring 3 disk is very dependable.

Thanks, i'll probably go with a steel nytro then. Do they usually come with the clutch coolant, or would I have to order that separately from the clutch?

I got about a pint of coolant with my DXL clutch. Be aware that the stuff costs around $20.00, yeah 20 bucks, a quart.

Hello Daniel - And welcome to karting. Hope you have as much fun as I do. Yes, the coolant is separate, and make sure when you order your new one that it is for the correct chain size. 219 is mostlly the norm now but you may have one that has the older type. Usually your rear gear will have the chain type stamped on it, either 219 or 75. Horstman makes very good stuff, the steel nytro can be had in a 3 or 4 disc version. 4 disc for the heavy guys like me. If someone can take off the old clutch and put on the new for you, good. If not, you'll need the puller and clutch tools for the new to put on , and old to take off. I have had better luck with the horstmans when filling the key a bit on top and sides.
