when building one what do guys think would be better
a kart with 4 bearings 2 on each side of kart or a 3 bearing setup with one in the middle?.
which would give the best handling?

The next one I do will be 2 bearings and 50mm axle. The brake being mounted at the center of the axle acts like a middle bearing when entering a turn due to trail braking.....And of course it looks symetrical and simple. (clean)
I have quotes from PCR coming for both chassis and Sudan engines updated to the last evoltion of the TSL4K FA engine!!! _________________ Riley Will

Love this thread, modified 125 shifter chassis seems like good idea. Never thought of that before.
My experience with a kart with the rear calipher mounted away from the bearing hanger was the calipher was more fixed relative to the rotor, so I got brake binding from time to time if the chassis flexed. Fixing the brake calipher to the bearing hanger is a better idea IMO, i.e. the calipher and rotor move together when the chassis flexes. Also, with center mounting the rear brakes more likely to drag the rotor on the track.
Anyone ever mount the rear brakes outside the frame rail? Would be similar to way front brakes look. Maybe not legal, I don't know.
My idea is 2 right side pto engines with front/ dual rear brakes. On the right side rear, the brake calipher/ rotor would be mounted inside the bearing hanger, the chain drive would be outside the frame rail. On the left side rear the brake calipher/ rotor would be outside the frame rail, the chain drive would be inside the frame rail.
At my age, forget 58 hp and 19000r's, I would be very happy with 2 piston port engines on 1 kart. |

Charles,
When I supported the caliper on either side, braking was superb with 0 drag issues. It was also less likely to hit a curb because the center of your kart is rarely over the curb.....Unlike the left and right frame rails.
Anyone have the ability to upload my pictures if I e-mail them to ya????? I am sure you all would like what we did. _________________ Riley Will

Riley,
Just upload them to photobucket.com and then paste the link here.
It's free and takes like 2 seconds, or send them to me and I can post them up on my account.

So how do the pictures get posted so they show up without having to go to photobucket? _________________ Riley Will

Riley,
now that the photos are up on a web site, just click on the "Ïmg" icon above the dialoge box, then past the image location, and click on the "Img"icon a second time.
so it should look like this: [ Img]... photo location addy .... [ Img]
and show up like this :- .....VERY sweet kart by the way !!

Do you need to sync the engines in any way, 180, 0??

| It depends on what kind of power delivery you are looking for. Firing them in a "big bag" fashion ie, both fire at the same itme, yields the most tractability if I recall. 180 deg out is the wildest, but IMO coolest sounding setup. |

This is the coolest!!!!! I have never been able to link pics like this before....Thanx Chad.
You can see in the last pic how the rear caliper is supported.
Also, you will notice that the bodywork went from 'Old School' bread box pods to new style coolness.....Overdrive Karts Joey Guyon is responsible for the classy upgrade. Joey also tuned the kart to run at it's true potential.
Overdrive, PCR, and BRC on going to collaborate on the 2007 O.P.B. 250cc Twin ICA.......Anyone else want a VERY special kart to have ablast in????? We are getting pricing back from PCR any day on the chassis and engines. It is a possibility that PCR will build the chassis from their current 125cc chassis to our Twin ICA specs......Totally Factory.
Seriously, if you want one, now is the time to step up

I remembered an artical about a radical twin motor kart from a few years ago, Built in Ohio by a CF expert Jim Conlin
Owner, Conlin SpeedSports . www.algiecompositesinc.com

| how do you start the direct drive dual. Is it easy enough to push start? I am in neutral with my shilfter when the push is started. I also guess no one would want to pit beside you because you would have to lift this thing everytime you wanted to move it. I ash these questions because I am very interested in building a direct dirve dual. I have a mid 90's Gold kart with 4 rails and bearings. I would only have to move the seat struts. Will can you take a better picture of how you located the seat struts, the ones welded to the frame. Thanks, Dennis |

Push starting the direct drive twin is the same as a single, not very difficult. It is easier when the engines fire in tandem, rather than 180 degrees. Weight of the kart was the same as a 125cc shifter, so if you can lift that with your pit neighbor then you will be fine:)
Seat struts come off of the rear cross bar straight up, then bend forward to attach the seat. We braced these struts back into the middle of the chassis towards the centrally located brake caliper. _________________ Riley Will
