Traditionally clutch type karts set slip for peak torque which can occur very high in the RPM band (about 9400 in my Kt100 with a pipe) this means that with autocross settings my clutch slips to about 30 MPH! This gives best acceleration when it locks up but leads to poor performance on tight courses.

We had one course that was so tight that I smoked a set of disks in a DXL 3 disc wet clutch! 2 drivers was too much, the clutch cover was over 400 degrees!

Has anyone done the leg work to see if a lower slip rpm will give better off the line performance or is it time for my son and I to drag out the electronics and do some more testing.

I noticed that several on this list use significantly lower slip rpm's. Inputs?

Our club has additional adult kart classes. I noticed in the 2007 SCCA solo II rules that mention has been added re regions can add classes for FJA karts with higher age limits. Has there been any push to run additional adult classes beyond the regional level? I ran with a 4 hole can last year as my 14 year old son did. Compared to my old CS car and even my 1987 Red Devil F440 it was one heck of a fun ride. I got FTD with it 4 times!
