Posts that whose sole (or even disguised) purpose is to advertise or solicit services are not allowed and will be deleted.
Users who post these messages will be reminded of the rule. If that behavior continues, more drastic action will be taken.

Sorry Chief! I am guessing that you are referring to me. Please allow me to stuff my pockets while you get the paddle. I really thought that the service that I mentioned would be beneficial to the readers.
It won't happen again. I am truly ashamed...

Larry, I wasn't talking about you! Someone 'spammed' several boards touting their updated website which, ironically, wasn't really updated at all. I removed their posts.
I don't think we have a problem with people genuinely recommending a product or service in response to someone else's stated need - that's probably one of the more valuable things a 'community' can provide. Obviously, someone could use that opening to solicit, but I hope we are sharp enough to catch any orchestrated efforts to exploit the forums.

TO me they key is the second part of Glenn's statement......"in response to...."
That is accepted and indeed encouraged. However a solicitation or an unsolicited "testimonial" originating a thread and *not* in response to any inquiry isn't usually acceptable. |
