Is it legal to race a 250 Twin Superkart in Autocross/Solo 2?
Thanks,

From my interpretation of the SCCA rules, no 250 motor is allowed to have a gearbox. I have repeatedly tried to reach the head of the nyr region to get a "real" interpretation as I want to run an ex250 motor.
Basically, I am pretty sure its not allowed.

Check with these guys http://www.autocross.com/texasregion/
They let the SAE folks run, I'm sure they will let you run a 250. I'll be running with them next year along with a handful of other 125 racers. _________________ John Denman

| It is not allowed by the SCCA insurance, no kart faster than a 125cc shifter is allowed to run. The FSAE cars are not karts and don't fall under this rule. |

| make it weigh 800 lbs and run it in AM. If you are a really husky guy it might work out. |

That won't work either. To be in AM it needs minimum wheelbase of 72", a roll cage, minimum wheel diameter 10", all four wheels sprung from chasis, and some other things as well. Doesn't matter anyway because there is a rule that explicitly says the fastest karts will be 125cc shifter karts and it is my understanding that the insurance coverage depends on that. So no region is going to let you run a 250, if they do they are jeopardizing their solo program. I'm not saying whether I think this is the way it should be or not, just saying it is not allowed currently by the rules. |

We recently had a thread on this, look down the list. It was left out of the rulebook, but there's already a Fastrack adendum.
Steve is absolutely correct, it's explicitly disallowed.
I was questioning whether we (D.C. Region) could run a 250 "Heavy" class, which wouldn't be any faster. Simply allow 250's to run with a weight of 500lbs or something like that. I'm not going to continue to pursue it unless we have real interest.
But no, a 250 at normal weight (385lbs) would definitely not be allowed, and there are no loopholes.
