As a veteran in Pro Solo, but someone new to karts for next year, I'm wondering what people's plans are for F125 at Pro Solo in 2006.

Essentially a drag race start (with Christmas tree) and you peel off in opposite directions to run mirrored courses, Pro Solo is a great format and I'm anxious to see a large turnout.
I'm sure of some of the East and West Coast regulars, but very curious to see how many new F125 people will make the events.

Brian:
When did Solo 2 become a category on this forum? I'm amazed. I will no doubt be at the West Coast pros.

| curious about contingencies. Does a cr125 f125 count toward honda contingency? That'd have a big influence on which events I do next year. |

Ryan: yup. $1500 to win the Pro Finale, direct from Honda.
I'll be at the SoCal pro if I can afford it. |

| looks like I might put more effort into auto-xing my kart now. With the potential of the money it might be worth it. Also my expenses of getting to evens have gone way down now that I tow my kart with my civic instead of having to tow another civic across the country. |

Careful guys, the Honda contingency money is not a lock for 2006. Although the program has been in effect for at least half a dozen years, there were some issues for this year.
Some of us jumped through hoops and did some fast talking to ensure that the money would be available for the Pro Finale and the National in Topeka just a couple of weeks ago. I have to mention that Howard Duncan took the steps necessary to see that the Honda money was indeed there for those events.
Next year, there are no guarantees.
It certainly is a good idea to enquire of the SCCA National office who we might direct correspondence to regarding a continuation of the support. I can list many reasons for extending the program into the future, but recommend that any interested party come up with their own words and send it along via email and/or snail mail.
It can't hurt to mention that Honda is the engine of choice for the class, in part because of the possibility of performance based payouts.
BTW, part of what must happen in the Pro series is a return to a fair and sane way of classing F125: The karts must have their own class for the season, at least where the minimum entry level of five is met. ModIndex has been a bust for karts for the last two years, and a windfall for straggler Modified and Prepared class entries. Enough is enough. A change in the factor numbers used is not what is needed!
I have recommended a system of indexed classes for each category (stock, SP, P, ST, and Mod) only used when a regular class fails to meet the minimum entry of five. There may be a simpler method put in place which sends all unfilled classes, regardless of category, to a single indexed class. However "the powers" decide, it is clear to me that any class which shows in sufficient numbers should not be made to compete only via an inherently flawed handicapping system.
I really love the Pro format. It offers to me a higher level of intensity. But I will not support a continued subjugation of a well-subscribed F125 class.

Agreed Alan.
What he saying is so true, but rediculous that the "powers that be" put a class of 8 or 9 into an index class. I've had less than that amount PLENTY of times in G Stock or H Stock...
Anyhow, the question is WHERE do we send our email letters to? The SEB does not handle Pro Solos.
I love the Pro format, and for those that know me now, I will do EVERYthing I can to have this problem solved.

Send all correspondence regarding the Pro Series to:
Howard Duncan <hduncan@scca.com>
Tasha Goodale <TGoodale@scca.com>
Cindy Jansen <cjansen@scca.com>
Bob Tunnell <bobt@bimmerhaus.com>
Believe me, they heard plenty from me this past summer regarding the policy of sticking F125 in with the occasional CM, BP, DP, etc. If you want a starting point to address the subject, just look at the entry numbers for the 2005 season. Total kart entries vs. total car entries in the category, M-class Pro license holders/points winners, etc. It is so lopsided, it is obscene to have forced the F125 entries to carry the others for a second year.
I will be reiterating my thoughts to these decision-makers. Everyone who is interested in running the Pro Solo Series in 2006 should do the same now, as rules and classing decisions for next year are being made. January will be too late!

Count me in for Pro Solo 2006. Since I have a free license and entry fee from the Toledo Bonus Challenge win, I might at well come out and play. And this time I'm out to beat Mr. Russell...
Let's just hope they come to their senses and give us our own class back!! And it'd be nice to have Honda money, but if not.... oh well. _________________ F125 #196

Glad to see that the free stuff will have you out. Funny how most of us are willing to spend lots more money to cash in on the freebies.
From what Howard indicated at the Pro banquet, the number of events will be expanded for 2006, a welcome thing. That means more opportunities to get points, but likely more needed to "qualify" for the Finale too. We may see a return to "Best 3 of the first 4" instead of the 2/3 used this year. That will likely mean a bit more travel.
IF there still are two events in this part of the country, I'll be doing those, plus another if needed. That is, assuming F125 is independent. If we are again Mod Indexed, I may choose to not run at all. I don't see that as happening, though.
I'd really like to run Atlanta next year, and will plan on that if the scheduling takes it later in the year than two years ago. When the event was moved from southern Florida to Atlanta, and left in February, I could not believe the poor judgement regarding weather. All one has to do is go to the National Weather Service's historical data for locations to see how bad it was likely to be for specific times of the year. Last year they upped it to mid April, a really good move. Still, I'd prefer it to be a couple of weeks later for warmer, hopefully drier, weather. If I could talk the guys from TN into joining the fun, and the locals would also run, we could have some good competition! Hey, I have relatives who live maybe 10 miles from Gwinett; driving is expensive, but I could save the hotel bill?
