Guido how about S2 is 15-29, and S1 is 30-40?

I am 45 and have slowed down more since 40 than from 25-40. We still have a couple of G1 wallbangers out there in their late 30's.

Its not like I have any passion to win. I just would like to see more parents out there with me.

What age is best for G-1? I don't think that the intent of the G-1 Class was to be a seniors league, rather it was to give the people who were purely doing this for fun, and needed to show up to work on Monday a place to race without having to run with the 16 year old kid that has his eyes set on a career in motorsports. The original problem was that there were way too many S-1 drivers sandbagging in S-2. As a result when I raced at the supernationals in 1999 there were close to 100 S-2 entries. By the time someone reaches 30, and they are still driving a kart, it becomes pretty clear that they are doing it for the fun of the sport. The number one ranked guy in G-1 is Bo Herron who I beleive is in his mid 40's. This past weekend I had the pleasure of racing side by side with Gene Martin from Oklahoma, who someone told me is over 50! It doesn't matter where you put the cut, 30, 35, 38, 40 etc...some people will always say it should be different. I just think that the intent of the class is not to be the GEEZER class, but rather the "I am doing this for fun, and have to go to work and feed my family on Monday class."

I must be in the minority here. I'm 52 and weight 160 but am finding running in K1 can get rather "interesting" to say the least. Another friend here in his 40's and I are thinking of going to G1 next year. I want to use my son's year old 125. Hopefully his current S2 spec Honda won't be obsolete next year for me! He'll probably stay in S2 with a new Birel- I'm finding running the 20+ lap races with temps in the 90's against the "kids" is finally getting to me! I was hoping when they created the G classes they would be 80cc's but it wasn't to be...

Going back to the IKF rulebook (that is the original root of the G1 concept) for 125 Masters, it shows weight as 400 lbs, and minimum age as 40. It is somewhat the equivalent of S2 in technical rules, but requires SL4 tires. I would swap the SL4's for YGC and hope the rules for SKUSA can otherwise match that of IKF 125 Masters.

Otherwise we end up with just another class proliferation.

John, look at the age in S1, av. is in the very low twenty's. What is there intention? They want to be pro drivers once they grow up. What is the intention of the 30 old one? He does it for fun.
You want to see more partents? I am ready for it, I race on Sunday and bring my daughter to school on Monday.

I really don't think IKF is where we should look to keep from having "class proliferation". Also, FYI, the IKF age for the Masters 125 class is 35 not 40.

How about we create G3 or masters 80 for us old guys and run 5 lap mains?

I stand corrected as I went by the book, and indeed the web site update indicates age 35. Not much of a masters class if it starts at age 35, but still an over-the-hill class.

I agree that IKF has not exactly avoided proliferation, but I feel that consistency in rules across sanctioning bodies is somehow a good thing.

Got a better idea, Rick! Why don't all us really old geezeers who are almost old enough to have kids in G1 have a GD class. We can all show up and meet at the track and then leave for the nearest "establishment" and talk about all them old glory days and them coulda woulda shoulda's, and amaze each other with stories of just how fast we *were*!! ANy body else up for a GD class?? (GD = Gone Drinking)

Great idea Charlie but I must warn you, I was really really really fast. It would be important to bring our karts and have a show and tell on how we had to fix this and straighten that, kinda like a post tech.
If someone falls off a bar stool do we red flag the class?

Amen Russ. Regarding the S1 thing, I can emphaticly say that I would much rather race with a guy from the S1 ranks than with either a newby or someone who is dangerously aggressive. I would personally like the rules where you can't side step into G1 removed. I never really understood that.

Since I stated this thread, does that mean I get everyone's 2 cents?
