| Does anyone out there know where to get the Samarium-Cobalt magnets installed in the CR80 ignition rotor? I understand that these magnets are much more powerful than the stock magnets and will generate a much hotter spark. I have also heard about rewinding the stator with more turns or spacing it closer to the flywheel to generate more voltage. Who does this work and how much does it cost? |

Normally, this procedure is VERY expensive. However, since you are such a cool guy, I will do it for $1,500. But only this once. |

Just kidding of course! I am a complete idiot when it comes to electronics. I obviously think I'm funny though! |

With bigger (stronger) mags, comes drag, lots of it. Are you sure this is a good idea!
Hotter sparks then the current PI's are great for show!

Yeah, they're plenty hot now. Midway through a lap at Reno a couple of weeks ago, I managed to pull the plugwire out of the boot, and it landed in my lap just as I down shifted. See, I can too dance! |

Mike, somebody posted a while back that the K1's had to run a recent promoto with their plastic stator cover off the motors. Was that true, and do you have an opionion on what SKUSA was looking for?
Thanks

I'm a little confused on the stronger spark thing. The system I have used only uses the crank signal to trigger the CDI, therefore more crank sensor amplitude does nothing.

Mike,
That's not the magnet in question here, The one you are thinking of is actually part of the pickup coil assembly (black lump of plastic mounted outside of rotor). The magnet in question is inside and attached to the rotor itself. A stronger magnetic field would generate more voltage for the CDI box, but may also let the magic smoke out of the electronics inside...without the smoke in them they just don't work!

| Is there a belief out there that a fatter arc welding type spark will actually make gobs more horsepower? If so then maybe those people should try Splitfire spark plugs. |

How come you dont call me back. Are they done yet or what? Like Greg said, you should not talk on the internet about that stuff. |

If you want to check out what samarium/cobalt is go to eamagnetics.com.
It is pretty impressive stuff. I think there might be something here.
I have toyed with the idea of cranking up the ignition. With compression ratios climbing, I have found it is imperative to keep a good spark plug in the Honda. Conversely, our YZ with basically has a modified AC arc welder for an ignition can light a very dirty plug(and even some of my side gap experimental plugs)
As for you Bill, I think you were into some "magic smoke" while you were poring through your EE books at the Univerity of Delaware. BTW-where have you been?
You don't think ignition output might play a part on the current SuperPro points leader's unbeatable chute speed do you?
