Not new to karting but just starting out in shifters (I know enough about the chassis set up stuff to get us started there). We have a stock '99 CR125. We will be running at high altitude (Denver - IMI, and Colorado Springs - CRE).

I have a Couple of questions: First, what selection and sizes of jets will I need to begin to set a performance baseline with this motor? Second, what gearing will we need (ballpark) for these two tracks? Our kart comes with 16 x 26 (I am used to clutch karts, so I'm pretty much lost figuring gear ratios with the tranny). Finally, about lubricants -- gear oil and 2-stroke oil - what are preferred/recommended brands and at what ratio(s)? I used to run motocross, so I am pretty familiar with 2-strokes.

Can't ask the previous owner these questions, because this kart has had zero track time.

Thanks in advance!

Wayne

Gear oil, volume on the case.
Lot's of different opinions as far as what to use. I use something that says 2 cycle gear oil and they sell it at the track. Honda dealer should have one designed specifically for cr125.
Fuel again I buy at the track, they require Burris 2 cycle oil (because they sell it) same for 112 octane gas. Ratio is 6 ounces to a gallon.
Pour in gear oil untill it comes out on the side of the case through a hole. Take the bolt out first.
Jetting..... Still haven't figured mine out Helps to have a bunch of different ones.

Hey Wayne. Gearing at both tracks kind of depends on your class and skill. CRE you would run something in the 1.70's or close to it. Jetting changes alot as the density altitude changes alot. For both CRE and IMI. We can get you in the ballpark, depending on what carb you have. IMI gearing is, off the top of my head in the 1.50's. Same thing on the jetting. CRE sells VP C12. Run it. Don't know what IMI sells, but C12 is good. Redline two stroke oil at 32:1. RC20 for coolant. Gear oil is Bel-Ray 85 weight 650cc's. Come by and bug us at the track if you have questions.

Wayne,

Notice that Phil stated the volume of transmission oil. I strongly recommend you get in the habit of measuring the oil in and out of the transmission. Some day it could really save you if you have a bad right side crank seal.
