I have decieded to go the ICC motor route if SKUSA decieds to allow these motors next year. I have been discussing the possible purchase of such a motor with several Italian kart shops(an adventure in itself).
Some have asked what method of shipping I prefer. I know UPS ships from Italy. Anyone have any other suggestions or experiences?UPS quoted me approx $320 for 3 day service, I was hoping to get under $200 even if it takes a bit longer. Anyone done this before?

Thanks, John

MY EXPERIENCE WITH ANYTHING THAT COMES FROM ITALY,IS BE PATIENT AND DONT BE SURPRISED BY WHAT YOU GET ITS NOT ALWAYS WHAT YOU ORDER.QUALITY CONTROL ISNT ONE OF THERE HIGHEST PRIORITIES.

Why are you going thru Italy?? Hope you donm't ned many parts in a hurry. I personally would recommend dealing with US shop...or at least Morth American that is familar with these motors and may even already have them here. Some I would recommend checking out if you haven't already:

JM (don't they run ICC motors in their KRC cup?)
Riley WIll, BRC, up in Canada
Tom Barth at GreenFlag is suppossed to be getting some TM K9s(hmmm...K9..hope they aren't real dogs!)
Some of the other Canadian companies also probably are familar with them, such as Italian Motors and Genesis.

They are much closer than Italy.

Thought I'd post about that K9 engine. I received some news from Africa about one of the first engines to be run there. In it's first outing it broke the previous Moto records in stock form. They said it pulled stronger in all regions. Looks pretty cool to with the Carb in the front & the pipe in the back.

The one thing I haven't been able to determine is if this would fall under a Moto engine since it is a Motocross engine just modified to be run for karts.

(Added the letter T's to my post as for some reason they were missing.)

Talk to Riley Will at BRC Engineering in Calgary Canada (www.brceng.com). They deal with Pavesi motors, which i have run and they seem to be very good quality(Won 2 Euro Champ rounds two). I really hope that SKUSA decides to allow these motors. I was discussing this option with some people today and i just think it would be a great way to go. This week, i took my Honda off to get the bottom end rebuilt. With all the ignition Wiring, difficult pipe mounts (difficult because the pipe comes out the front), it took me almost an hour to take the motor off. It only took like 15 minutes to put on a formula C to go testing with. Two Motor mounts and a couple of pipe springs and i was off.

Hi Charlie! this is not a plug but I know that Grand Products will be carrying these which would make them avail. at all TopKart deals across the US.

By purchasing thru US dealers, you avoid the hassles of dealing with shipping, etc. (which can be trying, at best) plus, you get the advantages of the quantity discounts the dealers are getting). We had to get an emgergency chassis directly from Italy one time and it is a confusing ordeal if you are not used to it, plus expensive. Luckily that is Bret's "other" business but it is still better that Grand handles all that "stuff" for us.

(Glad to you see you're moderating. I would have missed you)

Say, that's a really neat looking engine and all, but where's the water pump?

I believe the water pump is mounted to the back of the chassis and driven off the axle.

Right, we are using water pumps which were driven by the rear axle (with two belts.
In the CIK rules itīs forbidden to use an internal water pump.

Hi Rob!

Iīm not familiar with your Moto regulation, but I can tell you that the tm K9 is not a modified moto engine in any way.

I use a tm K8 for over 3 years now (the K9 looks as the K8 with only detail modifitacions) an a friend of mine drove a tm 125cc Moto Cross bike. I think these two engines do only share some screws or so. The case, cylinder and of course the clutch is different. (Dry clutches on all tm kart engines!)

Hope this helps.

Alex

PS: If someone has questions about the ICC engines we use here in Europe Iīll try to help

It was the current ICE situation that started me thinking about going directlly to europe. Several groups of ICE drivers here in SoCal have start getting motors and parts directlly from England, lowering cost by almost half! I think Stephen Buckley has some experience with this. You'd be surprised how many parts are inter-changable; and Vertex pistons (available through Sudco) can be had for most motors. How about a TM K8 for $1700, complete Beats the heck out of a TM moto for $3000.
I really hope SKUSA gives this a chance-we'll fianally get to see how much influence the moto engine builders have over SKUSA.

The 2001 TM Moto engines will also have water cooled cases.
