Just sell your house, everything in it, and your car.

If your on a team at least $50K. If you do it all yourself at least $80K. Are these #'s real? I'm not sure but that's the range everyone comes up with when this question comes up.
Or like Jon said, too much.

If it's going to be a true national effort, meaning east and west races, I'll vote for 100k if you don't mind cheap motels and fast food.
Never forget a really good tuner and yours or dad time has value too. _________________ Rick Blood

In the words of many a Bentley, Ferrari, or Rolls-Royce dealer.........
IF you have to ask, you can't afford it. |

| I guess if you spent 5 nights in 4 rooms at the Hilton and kept blowing up motors you could spend 60,000. It is not cheap, but it is no where near 60 or 100k. I have ran 2 manufacturers cup races and i run one motor for 2 days of practice and 1 motor for the 2 race days. I put a piston in my race motor every 2 big races and a piston in my practice motor every 5-8 races. I run TM motors and I have not had any problems at all. |

| In 2003 I estimated the cost of running 4 classes at 5 Manufaturers Cup races, 4 Gold Cup races, 6 Great Lakes races (2-4 rooms 3-5 nights at each) and 1 class at 10 club races. I remember I figured Hotel rooms, fuel, and other travel expenses at 15,000 and i used 6 sets of tires at each national race and 2 sets at divsisionals so lets say 75 sets for 12,000. The total ended up being around 50,000. I did not race ICC, but most of your cost is in tires and travel expenses. I would say you could run 8 stars races with good stuff for like 20-40k. Still not cheap but not 60-100k. |

20k will get you the kart, the two engines and the spares you need just to show up. If you expect or want to run any where with in 1 second of the front, you will need a tuner to assist you. A good tuner will cost you as much as $35k to 45k per year (including their travel expenses) and worth every penny.
Several teams are quoting arive and drive junior and ICC packages at $5,000 per weekend. That includes kart, tuners, pit spot, but not entry fee, fuel or tires. So even if you were doing an arrive and drive, you would still need to purchase a kart and motor for practice.
For 20k to 40k you could show up on old junk, run around in the back and waste your time and money. If you want to run any where near the front, you will spend at least 50 to 60k (including your testing time) for the season. If you don't have that much to spend, don't waste your time. _________________ Doug

$5k for the weekend?
For $7k, you can show up and arrive a drive a full on Viper Competition Coupe at any 3 day Viper Racing League event. You just need to pick up your flight and hotel on top of that. Least that's what the price was last year. |

How much is it to run a stars champion level ICC team?
That was the original question.
You can fool yourself into thinking it can be done for 40 or 50k but the real costs are double that. There are things that people forget about because they didn't have to cough up some cash for but are still part of the cost.
What about the 60,000 miles on the truck in a year and most people are going to need a better trailer than they have now. You have to drive clear across the country to the next race and spend 3 or 4 days testing and then fly home for a week so you can fly back for the actual event for another 4 or 5 days and then you get to drive all the way home. Everything you own is now worn out so it all needs to be rebuilt or at least torn apart and inspected. The next week you are going back to a local track to test some more. This is more than likely going to be 3 people investing all this time but could be done with 2. At least 1 of them is going to be taking time off work so isn't that worth something?
1 chassis won't cut it. 2 is the minimum and if there are different models you need 2 of each. 4 motors just in case. Spares of everything and tires, lots and lots of tires. You won't be testing on anything less than you would race on.
The key words are "champion level". That means that you can't afford to scrimp on anything and you have to be prepared for everything. Everything has a value not just the cash you lay out.
That said, nothing buys talent and without that you are just wasting money. _________________ Rick Blood

| Gary, Doug and a few others have it right - We raced the "Tour" for years - You can be competitive and race on a budget of 60K. Being highly competitive and racing to win every round it's closer to 100K (Pro ICC class) You can still win on 60K - If you want race right its a ton of money! And I do agree the Question was "How much to race National Level" The question was not "What can I do with 100K" |
