We see they are being imported by a well known spun wheel mfg'r and retail for under $140. What is the verdict on performance, quality? Bead retention?

I'm not exactly jumping for joy about all the products coming from China, but like it or not, they are coming. And for a few years these products will be much cheaper then Euro and US products.

From the stuff we import for trucks, workmanship has been acceptable, materials (mostly ferrous) have been acceptable, but barely. Most of what we receive are castings, and a some robotic welded fabicated parts, and a few 30,000 Lb rated trailer axles.

When, not if, the Chinese get to building racing karts and parts they will probably dominate the market quickly. All it takes is for some American to put together the design and retailing channel. I've even considered it.

Given the current manufacturing cost factors a 32mm chassis with Brembo copy brakes could be manufactured for about $800 - no seat or bodywork, but complete with hubs & powdercoat. (Maybe even a bit less if this didn't include supplying the DOM tube and braided brake lines). The same thing would cost $1800 to produce in the US.
