Yes, although the race is going to be and invitational event. Rumour has it that a few Motorcycle GP legends will be racing karts at the event as well. _________________ Riley Will

| Is it also true that it will only be F/E's, and no ICE's? |

If someone only decides to invite only FE's, that would be pretty lame.... It never seemed to be a problem before, why now?

Randy,
To answer your question, the race at Laguna is the Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey show. Their rules, their terms, their way or the highway!!! They are not the Gentleman they would like for everyone to belive they are! People can get mad becaause I speak bad of these two people, but the truth is the truth and the facts are the facts!! |

So what is the story behind this invitational situation? Did Eddie get held up behind back markers and wants a smaller grid (I find this hard to believe as he appeared to be a genuinely nice guy when I met him in Portland)? Was there a question regarding the quality of the original grid?
A real shame that it looks like I will not get a chance to race Laguna. To be honest it was the primary race I wanted to do this year and really makes me wonder if all the $$$ spent is worth the effort. |

Make no mistake, Laguna is a blast, it's one of the coolest things I've ever got to do. But it is not the only game in the country. Road america is so fast it's unreal, along with a host of other tracks that you would never get a chance to run on. I hope we get to go back to Laguna at some point because it's a well run facility and a great track, but we'll have fun no matter where we go. |

We should just bear in mind that without the likes of Wayne and Eddie, the Laguna show would proberly have never happened both past and present. They have helped lift the profile of our sport from nowhere to where it is today. Now it's up to us to take it to the next level.
Secondly I don't know the details, but when any small catergory gets the gig on a big event like MotoGP, there must be some strings being pulled behind the scenes. Now it would be most important for these people who have pulled the strings to provide a 1st class spectical in the presentation and performance of the karts and crew, both on and off the track. These people need to protect their end of the bargain so whatever the circumstances are, please respect any decesions that are made in regards to this. I can't see this being an attack on any class or individals, this is the big league and Superkarts need to present themselves in this manner especially at this MotoGP event. |

Without Wayne or Eddie no one would have been able to race at Laguna these past few years. They deserve a big Thank You instead of taking a cheap shot at them maybe all the details should be found out first, they didn't have to do any of this but they did it to help promote karting. I am amazed they can even run the same weekend as the Moto GP. _________________ John Kuntze

Sam I agree with you 100%, but all I have heard is rumors. It would be nice to know what the REAL skinny is. Laguna is a venue which I personally have enjoyed running, even without finnishing a race. I look forward to meeting everyone who comes to Laguna from across the globe. Matching faces with names, learning from fellow racers, and improving ones skills at a track that only comes once a year. (If we are lucky).
Wayne and Eddie? We have said hello, and had pictures taken with them. Thats all I know about them. They were nice enough to me. Yeah, it's thier show. So what. Thats thier deal, and I can't do anything about it. I will miss running Laguna if ICE's are excluded and or if I'm not on the list.
I'm still gona have fun racing where ever it is. |

All,
I am sure that Eddie and Wayne have had alot to do with the Laguna event, but to say that it would never have taken place may be a little steep. Sure they are famous, sure they have connections, but it all comes down to money. Anyone who has enough to spend can run just about anywhere. It is the karters show, not any two individuals. I do not think that there would be an event with Eddie and Wayne out there by themselves. Think about it.
Robby Harper put on a great event at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. We ran a bunch of FE's, ICE's and some laydown unlimiteds along with a whole lot of 125cc sprint shifters. Although this event may not have gotten the press that Laguna gets, it was an A+ event alongside the Rolex World Sports Cars. We had Pruitt and papis in our pits and a good amount of track time. ALthough I have not run Laguna in a kart, I would be hard pressed to believe that the Laguna event is that much better than the Barber event was.
P.S. the Barber event had a race fee of $125 for the entire weekend. RObby put on a great show without a lot of BS and I know that he has another event planned for 2005 alongside the Rolex Cars again.
If someone decides to run an FE show only, I really think it may be a mistake that they may not recover from in the near term. This is just my opinion, but I know that the number of superkarts are small and offending some will turn them off from any future series. West Coast or East Coast.
