American karters Robbie and Adam Pecorari and Colin Braun competed in the World famous Monaco Cup. Adam was competing in FA while Robbie and Colin competed in the JICA category. Some information and articles from the event can be found atTracc 5.

Unofficial results for the American drivers competing at Monaco:

Colin Braun - 9th place JICA
Adam Pecorari - 21st place Formula A (DNF)
Robbie Pecorari- 12th place JICA

Pretty good results, especially considering these young guys have not been allowed the opportunity to run these categories in the US.

Tony - Thanks, I sure wish we had the chance to run these categories in the US. I know there are many American drivers that could run at the top of international karting. It IS different, but given some time to run on the super gripy tracks and with the super gripy tires I know American drivers could run with these guys. The problem is that when we came over here it was all new and these guys have been doing this for years. Everyone talks about making karting more professional in the US, but it is already that way in Italy. I wish there was a place to practice this form of professional karting in the US so we could show off the many great American drivers.

In any case we had a blast. Colin and Robbie said they would much rather run the JICA kart than the 80cc shifter. Looking at the cost, I would like it better also. A JICA deal is way less expensive than the 80 shifter and the same or less than the FY Jr. class. All we can do is hope.

hey Gary Woltjer, the view in Monaco is slightly different than the view at the Santa Maria track. Plus the food is better and they have topless beaches. My kind of kart track!!!! When are we going to have our match race in Comer and Yamaha. Jeff Braun said we could use Mesa Vista.

Jeff, JICA, as the premier "world" junior class, is one of the most expensive classes of junior sprint racing, mainly due to the need to have the latest, & "on the limit " motors to be competitive.
A similar but far more practical/economical class for juniors will be the Junior Rotax Max.

True, but when we moved from Yamaha to JICA in the UK we doubled our costs over the year, and we went from being an averagely funded Yamaha team to a low budget JICA team. If you have the resources and the opportunity to race in the class then without a doubt you should do it because you'll learn so much and have a blast, but please consider the financial implications better than we did!

Chad,

I might be wrong, but I think Jeff was just comparing the US category of 80cc moto junior with the well known international class of JICA. Jeff's family does currently compete on a weekly basis in some good economical and fun classes like Formula Yamaha Junior and HPV Junior in addition to 80cc Jr.. Again, I do not want to put words in Jeff's mouth, but I think Jeff's point was that JICA in comparison to 80cc moto Junior is less costly and also more fun. I agree, there are less expensive classes than JICA in the World, but unfortunately, I think the US has surpassed everyone in expense with the 80cc and 125cc moto engine formula.

Just to give those who do not live in the US an idea of the numbers we are talking about, here are the costs for both 80cc and JICA directly from the catalogs of some of the top manufacturers and tuners:

80cc moto engine blueprinted $3000-$4000 each
JICA engine blueprinted $1500-$2000 each
80cc moto pipe and silencer $250-$350
JICA exhaust pipe (included with engine)$85
80cc moto complete ignition with PI $300-$500
JICA PVL fixed ignition (Included with engine)$150
80cc moto radiator $200-$350
JICA no radiator required $0
80cc rear sprocket $30
JICA 219 rear sprocket $16
80cc engine mount $150-$250
JICA engine mount (Included with most karts)$30-$100

Yes, JICA is more expensive than spec type classes, but I can see Jeff's point about cost and fun levels compared to our 80cc moto class.

Is there any movement to get these CIK classes run here in the States? I know all the politics of the FIK/FIA/CIK/CIA/FBI/IRS.... but will we see the types of competions like the one held in Montreal last spring across our country some day? Maybe even draw a World event like that one?

Congrats to the fellas in Monaco! Having been there a year ago, I'd LOVE to run on those streets! What a cool place!

That is a funny one Paul, you forgot to put your big grin in there though.

Tony Coello,
You can't blame a guy for trying, can you? Paulie and I really miss that class, and I guess you can figure out why. We still have all our motors....JUST IN CASE!

Hey Gary Woltjer,
I don't know nutin bout no L.A. Skyline ( I probably should buy spellcheck huh? ) All I know is you won the Duffy for the IKF Grand National in the Comer class and the Eagle has landed in New Jersey for the WKA Grand National in the Comer class. So I'm calling you out, Bubba. Sundown at Mesa Vista!!! You up for it? Diane Braun said she'll shoot all the rattlesnakes near the track so you got no excuses. And don't bring no surf board. Unless you want to have a side bet. Your surf board against my carjacking kit.( I got it straight from 42nd street in lovely downtown N.Y.). Since neither one of us won the Yamaha Jr. Spts. class we can race that also. You in or out?
All seriousness aside now, are you coming to NAKC for the HPV races?
