While racing the 80cc Honda shifter this weekend the motor stuck.
Upon investigating we found a hole in the clutch cover just beside the waterpump. The nut and washer holding the gear on had exploded through the housing. This of course caused the motor to heat up and seize.
Any ideas as to why this nut would come loose. This is an item i normally never look at.

Peter,
Without having seen the motor myself, three possible reasons come to mind. 1. The nut on the end of the crankshaft was not adequately torqued, 2. the threads on the crankshaft end or in the nut were damaged, or 3. the hardened machined washer was not used between waterpump gear and nut.
