Ok, I know that this topic isn’t new and yes I have searched the earlier posts.

This is my first year in karting. I’m running a Rotax Max on a Birel. I already have a tach/temp combo.

I’m thinking about getting a MyChron 2 but I wonder if my lack of experience in karting makes this money well spent. Should I just get a simple timing setup until I learn more?

Thank you for your input. RS

Since you asked my experience supports a Yes.

You save money. What I would invest in though is some kind of software to track your different setups or if your more organized person than me (Which isn't hard) use a notebook with pencil and pad. I've seen setup sheets around, but I never gave them a try because I have to many folders as it is. Darn IRS lol.

It dosen't matter how new you are to karts, the My Chron 2 is a good choice. As your driving skills improve, the My Chron will allow you to actually see the improvements in not only your driving, but the kart set up as well, through lap times and speed. The software is also not a bad idea as it will keep you organized as to set ups and lap times and track conditions. I just purchesed a My Chron Pro and I love it(or I will love it as soon as I figure out all the bells and whistles). Money can be well spent on data accumulation, I'm not sure I'd make it my first invesment,(probobly behind a good driving school) but it would be right up at the top of the list.
