| Thinking about getting/roadracing an RMAX, but if they go a little faster than an 80cc shifter (which could really use front brakes on a roadracing track, IMO), how smart is it to go faster than an 80 without them? How many RR clubs/tracks are allowing RMAX's that come and roadrace to use front brakes? How many guys/gals who are thinking about roadracing an RMAX would like to have the option of front brakes? I like the idea of the low maint. of the RMAX, but not the idea of losing the rear brake at over 100mph going down the straight at SIR or Spokane. |

Right now, SCK has a front brake optional rule. But you will need to check with the clubs you will be road racing with for 2002 and see if they have made the class a regional option class. The club will have to submit rules (in full to the IKF board) for approval. So every region could be a bit different. See under Road Race the 2002 class structure I will be posting.

The Rmaxs that have been running with NCK (Road Racing)have been required to have a secondary braking system. This complies with the Road Race rules of two braking systems for anything over 100ccs. (I don't have my rule book with me at work today)
So, the popular configuration is a second caliper mounted over the same disk on the rear axle. Front brakes would also comply with the rule.
I don't know if you are just worried about losing primary braking or want the additional braking. |
