|
|
In the classifieds there is a 'SuperMax' engine/chassis package for sale. Reading the description the seller implies that this is Rotax's new TAG format engine different from the existing FR125 used in the RMC.
| Quote: | | This is the ultimate TAG package. It has the reliability of a Rotax, plus that extra power needed. The low end bog is cured with the custom needle, that is included. The mid range hit is hard, due to the RM1 style cylinder. This package is approved by Rotax as their new TAG 125 engine. |
Anyone closer to Rotax have any further information on this engine?

Jon,
In talking with an SSC employee months ago when this first came up, it was an FR125 motor with a dd2 (RM1) cylinder and an exhaust either similar to the dd2 or identical to it.
However, I've been told this thing will not come to fruition, at least in the U.S. Not sure about anywhere else though. Was the post you saw on this site or in the U.S.?
In sum, I'd probably say forget about it.

| I heard about this about 2-3 months ago from Antony Halcrow in Canada. He has been testing this engine and said it might be the way to go for TAG. I researched it somemore and most of the comments I got was that it wouldn't be allowed in the US and would only run in Canada and elsewhere. This is what I heard. Obviously nobody is pushing it too much. |

Chad,
Ever heard of King Canute ?
i seem to recall a few years ago (on PM's forum) similar things being said about the Max and the seal concept.
Once Rotax launched the RM1 with its revised cylinder porting, i have been wondering when we would see this improved (32+bhp) version of the Max appear. It is inevitable, so we may as well start planning the rules and adjusting the weights, to cater for it. _________________ Chad

Either way, it's no big deal. The engine will still have to be submitted for certification and testing. When it is, the appropriate weight will be applied. Sounds like just another engine choice to me.

|
|
| I have driven the Supermax several times and it is fast. Rotax has approved it for TAG in Canada and has released specs. It is not just another engine package, it is a very reliable fast engine package. The comment that the weight will even the karts out is true, so why not go with the most reliable engine( Supermax or regular Rotax) P.S. we all run bone stock Rotax engines and have never been out qualified by the Leopards, so the Supermax will crush them. |

Exactly. Just about every other TaG motor makes more power than the Rotax, so getting more power than the FR125 isn't a problem, but you'll have to run more weight. |

The SuperMax is basically an FR125 motor with the RM1 Cylinder and pipe installed. I got the chance to test a variation at the Rotax Nationals last year in Texas and it is very nice. The bottom end power is MUCH better and it gets really good on the top end. What more could you ask for?

Just think how good it would have been if I had put the DD2 pipe on it !?
I think we should try that next week ! It's got to ROCK !
We'll report back here after Ocala. _________________ Bill Wright

Actually I was mistaken, the DD2 pipe is not part of the kit. But... I think it might be in a couple weeks!!! HEHE!
You are bringing your dd2 then? Maybe we need to go for a spin on Wednesday or Thursday in the RM1's? Bring your 34/63 gears!

You are correct, the kit does not include the pipe, or the coil/cdi, however I would suggest we'll have plenty of time to test by adding components one-at-a-time, to see what difference each make. I'd suggest the pipe will make the most difference.
I'll have the RM1. Remember I'm trying to decide if I want to sell it. We'll have some "SERIOUS FUN" for sure ! Joe will be there Friday for his test ride.
As you know, I've got ALL the gear sets. Nice of you to let me use them ! _________________ Bill Wright
