oh what the heck Mark, i'll go here. the rotax is a sealed motor package that is a good reliable motor, it's major benifit in my opinion is the rotax max challenge series program. it allows competition on a fairly equal level without motor issues coming into it. the series demands a good set-up on the chasis and a good driver to be succesful. the leopard is also a good reliable motor and is similar in performance but it will be racing against a group of other motors were some are better and some may not be. skusa and tagusa are still trying to determine what motor is faster and how much of a weight penalty to ascess the faster motors to keep them as equal as possible. if your just in it for fun and results are not critical right now, the leopard is a less expensive option. if really equal competition is what you want then the rotax is what i would reccomend. there are upsides and downsides to either options, it's just my opinion. _________________ B.Francis, |

The retail was raised to $2295 on 2/1.
Both have advantages. Pick the one that has the most action in your neck of the woods, drop the dough and have fun.

Andy has the best advice.
One of the two engines has several pitfalls compared to the other. Both are reliable and fast power plants. Ask many questions about each engines construction, components and materials.
I will offer this bit of information. while both need the battery to operate the starter, only one needs the battery to operate the ignition. The other engine, once started, will run on it's own and will also charge the battery.
It is these types of features that you need to research in order to make an educated choice. All the while keeping in mind which of the two is offered as a class for you to participate in. _________________ Patrick Hubbell |
