JMO, but the only way it can really be worth while is if the track is big enough to accommodate full size race cars. These are the people who are large in number, have deep pockets, and can afford the membership dues needed to make a high dollar track worth while. Motorsports Ranch in Cresson, Tx is a perfect example of how it should be done. A scaled down karting-only track sounds great, but the reality is it would be very expensive to build and operate and in order for it to make money, it would be very costly to the racers.
But, I could be way off base.

If you want to see what the minimum cost of building a track for testing and not racing, check out our web site and page at http://www.tracc5.com/team_test_track.htm
This is a track we built on our property for testing. It is 1500 ft and 18 ft wide. Kind of small but it does have a 350 ft straight that the 2 cycles reach 55mph and the 80 shifter about 65mph. Pictures are on the site.
We owned the land, spent $3,000 for final grading (I did the rough work with my tractor). Another $5000 for 6" of crushed limestone base. $20,000 for the paving. We installed 1,400 tires for protection, cost $700. Water, power and the rest are 100 ft away at the house. Total cost = under $29,000. No curbs yet. It is only good for testing, and then not for everything, as the track never gets the kind of rubber build up that real tracks get.

Does anyone know what happened to the track some people were trying to start up on southern California. They were looking for limited partners and it was going to be a kart specific track. They had a website but I do not remember the address.
