Larry, you must have been bored with the mundane, everyday discussions about stators, pistons, carbs, etc...

Posting this "Discussion Starter" (aka Rant Fodder) and then stepping back to watch the fireworks? Yer a Stinker! (LOL) Laughing

I'm surprised that there has been so little talk on bringing DD2 and Rotax Jr. to the supernats. I figured it would get its own thread but I guess no one cares at all. That might not be good.

Are both DD2s going to be there?

Do you mean DD2 and DD2 masters?

No, I believe he's referring to the two karters in the U.S. who actually race DD2 on a regular basis.

Which surprises me, because I didn't think there were that many.

Hey guys im a karter on a budget and living in IL. I have a K9 that needs repair (cylinder cracked) and ultimately rebuild. I was recently thinking about just buying a new Cr125 as it seems ICC motors have all but vanished from the Midwest especially IL. Id like to get a Moto if i could compete but there are no tracks close to me that even has shifters running anymore. So Im thinking about just repairing the K9 so I can remember the good old days. let me know what you guys think! also im running a rotax max to.

No shifters!?!? No ICC!?! You have to be kidding LOL.
There will be about 30 shifters at Blackhawk this weekend June 1st and 2nd. Come check it out. KZ, Mod Moto and stocker, they'll all be there. Stop by the GPI Racing trailer and say hello. Pretty sure Randy has a K9 cylinder or two knocking about, however yours might only need a replate.

Anyway stop by the track, have a chat with some people and figure out what you'd like to do.
Series' website is www.championshipenduro.com

There's a TAG class too if you want to come run your Rotax.

i am more of a sprint track guy and haven't done any road racing. besides i'm in Afghanistan for this season but racing is in my blood so its all i can think about right now. I more or less wanted an opinion on cost vs. practicality. If there are shifter sprinters still racing north of Peoria id like to know where.

I've been trying to stay out of this one, but ultimately the answer is the better engine package is based on what package is being actively raced on the tracks or in the series you race. If you're the only guy with a KZ motor, then you're not racing. If you're the only guy with a moto, you're not racing. I still miss my 135cc sprint kart but it was the last race I ran it there was just one other 135 and the rest of the field was 125 shifters. The writing was on the wall so I sold it at the end of t

The big costs in racing are not engine maintenance and upkeep, it's tires, travel costs, entry fees, race fuel et al. Barring catastrophic engine failure either package is going to be within a few hundred bucks of the other for the end of season freshen up. If KZ's are what's being raced locally and you can't justify the added ~$200 for a rebuild at the end of the season over a moto engine, then you simply can't afford to race.

If you start the season with a new kart and engine plus spares and racing costs, that price difference is just background noise. If you start with a used engine, then you'll likely find you can get a good used KZ package for less than a moto package which will offset the slightly higher rebuild cost.
