I'm have a problem with getting to hot. I ran at a track with air temp around 75f and elevation of about 2200 feet. With jetting extremly fat I was reaching 145 in one lap and backing down for the next lap would not reduce the temp, if I jetted to a good plug reading the motor would hit BBQ zone.
Motor is a case reed CR250 running a single rear rad, a scirocco rad. A complete check of my cooling system found no flow restrictions, water pump was fine , pulled head, all good there, burped system, no air.
So I believe I may be dealing with lack of air to the rad and or very dirty air.
So the questions is is this rad any good, meaning how does it compare with and all aluminum rad? The scirocco rad has plastic end tanks and the transfer tubes or round unlike most rads.
If I have to make up an air intake shroud to the rad I would like to start with the best type of rad.
need some direction on the issue please. |

Hi Gerry,
sorry we didn't get a chance to talk at ORP. This seams to be a common problem with running the single rad in the back. I have a scoop that is for the scirocco set up. Your welcom to try it to see if it works. |

Be ccarefull not to change too much before you understand the cause Gerry.
First check the gap between the water pump impeller and the housing. Some after market combinations gap to much and dont scape the volume of water or create any positive pressure.
Second ensure that you dont have an air lock (if you dont know how to ensure your circuit is bled PM me)
Finally, surface area of the rad you have plus the air flow through it are of course critical. If the air is too fast it wont cool. Do you have any ducting to slow down the air going in?
The stock anderson radiators one (or two if its a hot day) work fine. You can get them from Anderson or Viper Racing UK. You can get patten stuff form Saldana Racing and I have some used and oversized for sale.
Be very clear on the first points and do some testing with a big fan before you spend money. _________________ DEAN MARTIN |
