I was able to get the above engine very cheap. Can someone tell me what other years of CR250 engines are the same as this one for spare or replacement parts? I may want to replace the engines cases and knowing what other years have the same cases (and other components) could help me in my search. |

Hi Nigel
Basically everything from 1997-2001 is directly interchangeable.
You can also interchange most items from the 1992-1996 range. Differences are:
Crankcases have a very slightly different deck height (you can use them without modification as a pair or even singly from the different heights as long as the deck is machined level prior to assembly).
Piston height adjustments are effected using aluminium spacer plates and various thickness base gaskets.
The piston in the 1992-1996 is dome top in 1997-2001 it's a flat top.
The heads are diffent to match the relevant pistons and the 1992-1996 also has the sparkplug hole at an angle (so the plug clears the central top frame spar). In the 1997-2001 the plug is vertical as the frame went to twin-spar aluminium at the same time.
Cylinders from all years from 1992-2001 all have slightly different porting, but are interchangeable. We prefer either the 1997 (P) cylinder or 2001 (V) when tuning. The best standard cylinder to run is the 2001 (V)
In terms of ignition the 2000/2001 generator is best accompanied by a Viper programmed Viper/HPI 2-curve digital programmable CDI box.
Best Regards
