I just got my Jet-Tech Pro software and I'm putting my setup into it...
This got me thinking... Here in Sherbrooke, Canada I can get 94 Octane Pump Gas, which I heard is oxygenated and, from what I just read, because it is oxygenated, that means their is a better risk of detonation....
When I had my ICA, I once bought a 5 gal. of VP 101 Race Fuel. But it is very expensive... around 130$
Compared to the 94 Octane cost around 40$ for 5 gal.
I run a Vortex RVS engine, and, except the difference in performance, I was wondering if oxygenated fuel could harm my engine....
What fuel do you guys use for your engine? Canadian Karters, please give me your input also!!! |

Its a race motor that's going to be driven hard, therefore run race gas or you are asking for trouble. Remember this, race gas is cheaper than a piston and cylinder re-plating!
You have a lower compression motor so you "might" get away with pump gas for detonation, but sooner or late it'll bite you, but it will probably have zero to do the octane number. The main reason for running race gas isnt even the octane rating, its the inconsistency of how its composition. Ethanol, moisture and other contents can vary wildly, throwing your jetting off. You need a consistent fuel. I have heard of people running 93 with their KZ, but again, it was a 93 RACE fuel, not pump.
I would argue that if you want to make your jet-tech useless, running pump is a good way to go.
If you must, you could blend race gas and pump, but I would highly recommend you run a race gas. Leaded can be even better for longevity of the bearings. _________________ Live in the midwest and have a TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart?

Thanks for the advice!!! I want to keep the engine at its maximum shape and keep it for a while... so I got my answer it seems... |
